The “Intouchables” is a French comedy-drama film directed by Olivier Nakache. It
is not a quintessential chick flick. The plot is inspired by the true story of the
growing friendship between the two likable men. Philippe is a well-off man, who
owns a luxurious hotel, became disabled following a paragliding accident. That is
why he and his assistant Magalie are interviewing candidates to be his live-in
caregiver. Driss, a man out on parole for robbery, wants this job to get a signature
on his application for unemployment benefits.
The film contains a gallery of interesting episodes. Philippe is a thoughtful, kind
hero who has everything, has nothing. Driss, an irresponsible man, who has no
ambitions, survives in harsh conditions. The sharp contrast between them entrances
you from the first minute. It is amazing how these men clicked straightaway in the
beginning. Even more, Driss helps Philippe discover his appetite for life and his
capacity for joy. The film’s ending is open and gives viewers some food for
thought.
The script is a masterpiece of comedy writing. It makes you laugh and cry, and it is
definitely one of the most vivid and honest friendships ever committed to
cinematography. That is why this heartwarming film became the second most
successful French film of all time, breaking all box office records. If you want to
spend a lovely evening, the “Intouchables” is a great choice.
