q Recap :-
§ Introduction of Networking.
§ Definition of networking.
§ Components of Networking.
§ Characteristics of Transmission Media.

q Multiplexing:--
Meaning:- Multiplexing means divide the elements or objects into
equal parts for multiple access . There are three types of
Multiplexing.
a. Frequency Division Multiplexing (FDM).
b. Time Division Multiplexing (TDM).
c. Code Division Multiplexing (CDM).
a. Frequency Division Multiplexing (FDM).
Divide the frequency equally into multiple parts for access .
Ex:- FM , Walky-talky ets.

b. Time Division Multiplexing (TDM).

Divide the time equally into multiple parts for access .

c. Code Division Multiplexing (CDM).

Divide the code means program equally into multiple parts for
access .
q Types of Transmission Media:-
There are two types of Transmission Media.
a. Wired Media b. Wireless Media.
a. Wired Media:-
The media which are used to connect nodes physically
that media called as a wired media. So data can be shared through wired
from one place to another place .
There are 3 types of wired media .
1. Twisted Pair Cable. 2. Coaxial Cable . 3. Fiber Optic Cable.
1. Twisted Pair Cable:-
A pair of two or more cable twist with each other is called as Twisted Pair
Cable. Outer Layer is called as Cable Jacket its used to protect data from
outsider disturbance . Inner Layer is called as Insulator is used to protect data
internally and Conductors are used to connect the end points and data can
travel through conductor .
Total no.conductor =no.of pairs* 2.

There are two types of twisted pair cable

I. Unshielded Twisted Pair(UTP) and II. Shielded Twisted Pair(STP)
I. Unshielded Twisted Pair (UTP):-The cable doesn’t in corporate
shield(Protection).

I. Shielded Twisted Pair(STP):-):-The cable is in corporate

shield(Protection) that is foil wrap and woven copper shield.

Both the cable used in either Telephone Line or Computer Network.

For Telephone line required RJ-11 and compute required RJ-45
Connector.
2. Coaxial Cable:- In this cable there are two conductors sharing a
common axis. Outer layer is called as Plastic Jacket., Conductor is
metallic foil and braided wires, Insulator keep outer conductor
spaced from inner conductor and a centre conductor travels the data.

This cable used in T.V system.

3. Fibre Optic Cable:-This cable consists of highly refined glasses or
plastics. A glass core supports longer distance ,cladding or gel that
reflects signals back into fibre to reduce signal loss. This cable have
extremely high band width.
Comparison Of Cable Characteristics :-
Name Of Cable Cost Bandwidth EMI Attenuation
UTP Low Low High High
STP High High Low Low
Coaxial High High Low Low
Fibre Optic Expansive High No NO
