Project Abstract
In Philadelphia and the country as a whole, the current opioid crisis is spiraling out of control.
While the epidemic plagues people of all walks of life, the majority of people suffering are of lower
economic standing and/or homeless. In a world where any kind of service is researched, contacted
and located online, this puts these people in a position where they cannot even begin to seek help
for their affliction. Therefore, my project is to create a service that can be deployed solely with the
mission of giving this demographic access to a network of medical facilities, rehabilitation centers,
and community outreach. This way, we can begin to mitigate the damage that drugs like heroin
does to our city. And give addicts a sense of dignity, independence and hope.

Stakeholders
Possible Stakeholders for this service are numerous,
however the core people are as follows…

•local drug addicts

•law enforcement
•city health department
•volunteer health groups (IE: Red Cross)
•community faith representatives (pastors, imams, rabbis,
etc)
•family members of drug addicts
•homeless shelter organizers
•rehab centers
•local health professionals
•non-law enforcement first responders (EMTs and
•Firefighters)
•community members in drug affected areas (kensington
residents)
•state lawmakers
•federal makers
•Federal heath officials (CDC, ACA, etc)
•local health researchers
Project Description
My project plan, at present, is to research the pain points, needs and wants of local addicts that
have limited or no access to the internet in regard to finding support. After that I would reach out
to organizations in our area that offer help that fits the needs of these people and find out how they
advertise their services. Armed with this information I will design a tablet sized touch based (button
supplemented) interface to be installed in the form of a kiosk. These kiosks would be placed at high
traffic public locations in the areas where they are most needed. Focusing on churches, homeless
shelters and some businesses for the location. But, placing the kiosks themselves in private
secluded spots in those buildings to provide the dignity that this service aims to enstate. The
kiosks will guide the user through a linear flow based on a plain word questionnaire that would cater
results to the user’s desire and end with an actionable recommendation that the user could follow.
Offering the option to print information to be taken with the user as they leave the kiosk.

Hypothesis
If I design kiosks to provide addicts without internet access (or
those close to addicts) with information on possible support
options, then they can have a better chance at getting over their
addiction.

Problem Statement
How can people who are struggling with addiction find support
when they have no access to the internet. And inversely, how can
these support outlets better reach this struggling demographic
of people with their services.
Business Model
Mission
to place a few kiosks in locations with the highest levels of drug related casualties
to gain support from local, state and federal leadership

Long Term
to show marked causational data that showing the effectiveness of the kiosks
to add more kiosks to other cities
to widen the scope of what the kiosks can do for the people that use them

Objectives
to gain support from community leaders for this project
to gain supporting information from the support networks that the service
has brought in more people
to gain testimonials from the affected demographic that they found the
kiosks helpful

Metrics
decrease in opioid related arrests, overdoses, or reported sightings in the
immediate area near the kiosks.
knowledge of the kiosks existence by members of the community not in the
immediate area of the kiosks
testimonials from local addicts that credit the kiosks for their effectiveness.

Goals
Short Term
to place a few kiosks in locations with the highest levels of drug related casualties
to gain support from local, state and federal leadership
Long Term
to show marked causational data that showing the effectiveness of the kiosks
to add more kiosks to other cities
to widen the scope of what the kiosks can do for the people that use them

-”Our mission is to digitally connect vulnerable groups to

support networks. “
SWOT Analysis
Strengths
strong concept with clear goals
non-polarizing issue that would receive sweeping support locally and
nationwide
clearly defined demographic
problems are life or death, and thus, users have more demand for solutions

Weaknesses
strong concept with clear goals
non-polarizing issue that would receive sweeping support locally and
nationwide
clearly defined demographic
problems are life or death, and thus, users have more demand for solutions

Opportunities
to offer assistance to a demographic of people that is arguably the most
affected by opioid and other drug addiction.
to better improve the community for non-addicts in the area
to give law enforcement and first responders a tool they can use to educate
know addicts and prevent future medical emergencies and arrests
to offer an anonymous data gathering portal for government health officials to
measure the scale of the opioid crisis

Growth Strategy
By receiving support from government organizations and from
charitable foundations.
By spreading awareness of these kiosks to those who have internet
access through social media and news outlets
by partnering with support groups, rehab centers and non profits
to educate them on what the kiosks does and how to submit
information to them.
