1. Abstract/Summary
· The abstract is the most important component of the proposal. Spend time developing the best
possible title. If the length is not mandated, it should be no longer than one half to one page
maximum.
· What will be done, by whom, how, over what period of time? What is the problem/need? Who
will the outcomes benefit?
Many cases of different kinds of animal abuse are reported each and every day. It's truly amazing that
non-profit organizations such as The Humane Society, ASPCA, and Best Friends Animal Society
put their best foot forward to help raise awareness to these kinds of issues. For my project
however, I wanted to focus on not animal abuse as a whole, but a problem regarding animal
abuse on a much smaller scale. Improper chaining or improper tethering (mainly amongst dogs)
is still a serious problem even though this practice can be easily avoidable. Many dog owners
lack the responsibility in following certain protocols when it comes to restraining their pets,
which is why I'm bringing awareness to this situation through this solutionary project. My plans
to spread awareness to this situation would be to keep in contact with any local pet stores that
sell dog leashes or chains. After every leash or chain purchase made, the customer would be
handed a small like business card provided by me that would list the safety precautions and laws
when it comes to leashing your pets. The outcomes of my project will benefit not only pets of
2. Statement of Need
· What is the issue that you are addressing and why does it matter?
The issue that I am addressing is the improper chaining and intensive confinement of dogs over
an extended period, to the point of discomfort and lacerations. This issue matters because
innocent animals are needlessly suffering over an issue that is easily preventable.
· Why is what you propose necessary?
During these times, I feel that people are disregarding the health of their pets and instead
focusing more on themselves. This can lead to incompetence of the owner, which ultimately
leads to their pets getting harmed.
· Who benefits? Indicate the public good.
Pets, and their owners benefit from this. Pets especially with their owners being more aware of
the laws and regulations that come with chaining and tethering. Owners benefit also with the
newly gained knowledge to connect them more to their loved ones.
· Why hasn't this issue been addressed sufficiently in the past? Who else is working in this field,
what have they done, and why isn't that enough?
I don’t think a lot of people know about these kinds of laws. Hawaii lawmakers back in the start
of 2020 introduced 2 animal cruelty bills which made improperly chaining dogs illegal under no
circumstances. Because of these bills being passed so recently, people still may be unaware that
this is a serious offense.
I’d say almost every non-profit organization that is listed in the animal cruelty department deals
with improperly chaining dogs. These organizations have raised millions of dollars to provide
medication and treatment to dogs who fell victim to acts of illegal chaining. Despite them doing
an amazing job to bring awareness to this situation, I don’t think it’s enough until illegally
chaining animals is a thing of the past.
· Why are you the best one to do what you propose to do?
Throughout my life, I've always enjoyed spending time with pets. I love to spend as much time
with my dog as I can, and I always care for any of his needs. I’m the best person to propose this
solution because of the love I have for animals. I would hate to see my dog needlessly suffering
due to such a minor yet crucial mistake.
4. Evaluation
· Your work that should be both quantitative (measured by the quantity of something) and
qualitative (measured by the quality), if feasible.
· Outline clearly the methodology that you will use to assess the project’s success.
Talk with local vendors about my project asking them for a partnership which includes me
handing out information cards to consumers.
5. Dissemination
· Sharing your work should be linked to your project goals and objectives.
· Describe your strategy for communicating your work to the public.
My main form of communication to the public will be through my Weebly website. But I'll also
may be creating a social media platform to display my work as well.
· Be creative. Sending an article to a professional journal is only one of many options. Consider
submitting op-ed pieces to newspapers; obtain newspaper coverage and interviews on local radio
stations; engage in community outreach activities or presentations to community groups; launch
a web site or blog; convene work groups of your peers; create briefing papers, press releases, or
videos.
Since my project isn't nearly as costly as some other efforts of other nonprofit organizations, my
project budget is only around 12 dollars. The only expenses I’ll be making is for the cards.
