expectations of the Assessment Declaration”
Question 1: What are the three key things that you have learnt this semester in ISYS2453?
In my opinion, the greatest aspect about ISYS2453 is the Practicality. Firstly, the course taught
us how to do project management more efficiently through Trello, product backlogs, sprint
backlogs and release burndown chart. By applying these methods, it keeps the whole team on
the same track and provide an overview on responsibilities and deadlines for each member, so
that everyone clearly understands what they have to do and avoid procrastination. The release
burndown chart also reflects the efficiency of the whole process so our team can later give
feedback and improve.
Lastly, I think that the knowledge about Use Case Diagram, Business Process model (BPMN)
and Class diagram was really useful as well. Technically, these diagrams act as the foundation
for our team to identify and decide app functions, potential customers, user behaviors and
current shortcomings. Through these diagrams and critical thinking skills, we can consolidate
and improve our ideas to suit the market preferences.
Moreover, the heavy workload is also one of the difficulties in the course, which would require
extremely careful time management because each assignment was only given 2-3 weeks to
complete. As a leader of the team, my responsibility was to allocate appropriate tasks based on
my member’s schedule and expertise, while keeping track of the whole progress and also
reallocate tasks if necessary. With the help from Trello and product/sprint backlogs, the process
has been much easier because all the sub-tasks were already identified and everyone is on the
same track, so it was convenient to switch one task to another person when someone is busy.
Question 3: How do you think you can use what you have learnt in ISYS2453 in your future
career?
This a very practical and rewarding course, which I think all the knowledge and skills learnt are
relevant to real-life application. The course has given me the chance to learn and prototype
with Figma for better idea visualization in today’s digital context. Regarding the soft skill, I have
learnt to Lead with empathy. As a leader of my team, I usually ask everyone beforehand for
their upcoming deadlines so that I can maximize task allocation efficiency. By understand each
team member’s timeline, I can connect everybody to work smoothly as a team to avoid conflict
and miscommunication. With the goal of becoming an entrepreneur in the near future, I believe
that this skill would help me guide my team to work in harmony.
Secondly, I think that the course helps to enhance my critical thinking skills when solving
problems. Our team proactively ask each other questions along the way to identify mistakes
and consolidate our arguments. Therefore, I believe that this skill will help me to minimize any
potential mistakes and also develop advanced strategies when joining the workforce.
Question 4: Given your experience in ISYS2452, how likely are you to become part of a digital
startup?
I think that working in a digital startup company would be an interesting experience due to its
dynamic and fast-paced environment, which requires extremely high commitment but also
comes with high reward. Therefore, it would be a great place for me to apply what I have learnt
in RMIT. Secondly, since the majority of startups are small-scale, we would be able to
contribute more and get a sense of achievement when successfully building a product/service. I
believe that joining a digital startup is the best way to get myself familiar with everything due to
the huge amount of practical knowledge, rather than a working in a fixed position for a large
company.
Question 5: Consider the overall effort of each of your team members, how would you rate
