1. ans- The importance of industrial agreements and other considerations, as well as, wage budgets
when developing rosters by considering when and where it will be used. Certain factors must be taken
into consideration before creating and implementing the roster. Using a roster template benefits
an organization in many ways, such as: Cost savings: Better scheduling can reduce overheads associated
with not assigning more employees than are required at any time, and avoid staff being overworked by
not receiving enough rest between shifts or bad shift combinations. To create the most effective roaster,
it is beneficial to gain extensive knowledge on how the roaster works. Roaster can be broken down into
specific types:-
Duty Rosters – Duty rosters are used in order to prevent having multiple staff with the same skill set on
the same shift.
Flexible Rosters – Flexible rosters are created based on the needs of the business.
Staggered Rosters – Staggered rosters are optimal for businesses that encounter fluctuations in
customers.

2. ans- A roster helps organization to maximize operational and customer service efficiently while
minimizing wage costs as roster helps in prohibiting overlapping of duties and employees can provide
best services and outputs, this will only happen when they are familiar with their role in organization.
The rosters must be operationally efficient, which means that all the shifts must be covered and the
busiest period is filled with the most skilled staff. It is important to ensure:-
 There is a sufficient ratio of front and back of house staff
 There is enough staff to serve customers
 Adequate supervisors are rostered on

3. ans- Combining duties of staff members increase effective use of staff as creating a roster that is
effective and efficient, it is imperative to consider the job roles and duties of staff that have been
rostered on a shift. This means that duties may be able to be combined, thus getting the most out of
your valuable employees. Initially, staff may not be comfortable with the combined duties:
 Leading by example
 Cross training them
 Providing training in multi-skilling

4. ans- Team rosters should comprise of staff with complementary mix of skills, to meet operational
requirements. Complementary skills refer to skills of individual skills that work more effectively together
when there is a task to achieve a shared goal and objective. For example, John who is the  kitchen hand
is very good at vegetable cutting, partnered with Samantha, who is a great  cook but slow at cutting
vegetables; an effective manager would place them on the same  shift as John would be there to assist
Samantha in case she begins to fall behind.

public advocacy, it may even be intended that people should act on and change that society. Such

Broader organisational policies – Broader organisational policies provide guidelines for decision making
processes and the way that work in an organisation should be carried out. The result of having clear,
well-written policies and procedures are increased transparency, accountability, uniformity and stability.

6. ans- Any three (3) ways to consult and organ input of, colleagues regarding rosters are:-
The employees know what’s being considered. They understand the change and its potential impact on
the workforce 
There is a clear process for consultation and employees know who will make the final decision and how
Management and employees then work together to identify any workforce issues or problems arising
out of the change and agree on ways to solve those problems.

management as the business and is generally driven by  the workforce that the business is in. Thus, it is
imperative to hire the best people for the best jobs. Effectively using talented people requires knowing
when to roster them for particular shifts. For example, roistering the same group of employees in
consecutive shifts is not possible as the best workers may experience fatigue-related illnesses.

availability, role, and qualification requirements.

messages, and estimated staff hours.

records, to administer shift times of employees and/or contractors. Most businesses use accounting
software programs to simplify electronic record keeping, and produce meaningful reports. There are
many other advantages to using electronic record keeping, as listed below. Seek advice from your
accountant or financial adviser before purchasing software for record keeping. Check which accounting
software is tax compliant on the Australian Taxation Office website. Cloud backup services are becoming
more popular and can be automated for your convenience, but you should make sure the method you
choose protects the privacy and security of your business and customers. Some business owners may
want to use a simple, paper-based record keeping system. There are certain advantages to using manual
record keeping. Problems with duplicate copies of the same records are generally avoided. The process
is simplified as you don't need to be familiar with how accounting software calculates and treats your
information.

listed in an award or agreement. Overtime is usually paid at a higher rate.
