RIPPLE: DEFINITIONS

1. Ripple: General Definition

In-band ripple is defined as the fluctuation of the insertion loss within the
pass band. Although this definition seems straight forward, it is possible to
measure the ripple in two different ways. The diagram below explains these
two methods.

Difference between the largest and smallest value of Insertion Loss
within the Pass Band
In general, the value from this measurement will be larger than the
peak to peak measurement. Unless otherwise specified, UBE
catalogs, specifications and technical documents use this definition.

Peak to Peak (B)


Difference of Insertion Loss between the peak top and negative peak
top
