- Account for installation
To install GlobalScan NX, you must have administrator privileges, which
means you must belong to the Administrators group.

- Do not install GlobalScan NX on a domain controller

Do not install GlobalScan NX on a computer that is acting as a domain
controller.

- Computer name
The name of the computer on which you install GlobalScan NX must contain
only alphanumeric characters (A-Z, a-z, 0-9) and hyphens (-).
- Installation Folder
Page 3
Readme.txt
The button to create a new folder will be disabled on the Install
Folder Selection screen of the installer when the Program Files folder is
selected as the destination folder. New folders can be created under the
Program Files folder by manually editing the path name. However, it is
suggested that the new folder be created before starting the installation.

- Name of the Program Files folder

Although the name of the Program Files folder varies depending on the operating
system being used, the installer displays the default installation folder as
"Program Files". Because the installer needs the name in English, do not change
it to the localized name.
- IIS, the ISAPI extension & the ISAPI filter
If you use IIS 7 as your Web server on Windows Server 2008, you need to have
both
ISAPI extension and the ISAPI filter installed on the computer where IIS is
installed.
- Stopping GlobalScan NX via the operation panel/Web Image Monitor
Be sure to restart the device after stopping GlobalScan NX via the
operation panel/Web Image Monitor in the following manner:

From the operation panel:

1. Press the [User Tools/Counter/Enquiry] button.
2. Press the [Extended Feature Settings] button.
3. Press the [Extended Feature Settings] button on the Extended Feature
Setting Menu screen.
4. Press the [GlobalScan NX] button on the Startup Setting tab.

From Web Image Monitor:

1. Log in to Web Image Monitor as an administrator.
2. Go to Configuration > Extended Feature Settings > Startup Setting.
3. Select GlobalScan NX and then press the [Stop] button.

Also, both Web Image Monitor and the device's Extended Feature Settings screen
may display the status of GlobalScan NX as "Suspend".
This is equivalent to "Starting Up" and is normal behavior, there is no need
to restart.

- Modifying the built-in user's password, port number, virtual directory, or web
server used
To modify the above settings, re-install the product from the installation
media.
Uninstallation of the product before starting the re-installation may be
required
depending on the settings you want to modify.

To change the built-in user's password, re-install the product in the

following manner:
1. Stop GlobalScan Service from the OS's Service Menu.
2. Re-install the product from the installation media (Overwrite Install).
To change the Port Number, Virtual Directory, or Web Server, re-install the

Page 4
Readme.txt
the specified data path already exists will show up. Press the [OK]
button on this dialog.

- Installing Optional Plug-ins

The GlobalScan NX installation media includes several optional plug-ins in a
folder
labeled "Options".
These plug-ins are installed separately from GlobalScan NX. For some plug-ins,
a separate license must be purchased in order to use them.

- When the device's IP address has been changed, it must re-registered to the
GlobalScan NX device list after removal.
-------- Operation Restrictions --------

- GlobalScan NX Single sign-on when using MFP authentication

If the login information (User name and Password) registered in the MFP's Basic
Authentication or
LDAP authentication address books is the same as that used to login to the
GlobalScan NX
project, a user can login to the GlobalScan NX project without separately
logging in
to GlobalScan NX. Single sign-on does not work if the MFP's authentication
method is
set to User Code Authentication.

- MFP Authentication Method

When using the MFPs authentication system, GlobalScan NX can only be used with
the following authentication methods:
* User Code Authentication
* Basic Authentication
* LDAP Authentication

- Login User names

Only ASCII characters can be used for user accounts. Also, space, colon, or
double
quotation marks are not supported because of MFP limitations.

- Character code support

XML Transformer Filter:
XSL StyleSheet files for the XML Transformer Filter must be encoded in UTF-8.

- Data uploading in an IIS environment

When using IIS, data uploads can fail due to an issue with authentication;
this causes an error message to appear. To prevent this problem from occurring,
configure your Internet settings as follows via the Internet Information
Services(IIS) Manager:

1. Open the Web Sites Properties dialog and select the Directory Security
tab.
2. Select the [Edit...] button at the Authentication and access control
setting.
3. On the Authentication Methods dialog, and Enable anonymous
access.
4. If the problem continues to happen, set a valid user name and
password via the dialog opened in step 3.

- Limitation regarding replacement tables

* One replacement table can have a maximum of 500 entries.
* The total number of entries for all replacement tables must not
exceed 2000.

Page 5
Readme.txt
- XML Transformer Filter XSL file name display issue
On the Properties screen of the XML Transformer Filter, the XSL file path
field always displays the name "dest.xsl", instead of the actual
name of the specified file, when the [Upload] button is pressed.
- Using the AdminTool with FireFox and SSL
Using Firefox to access the AdminTool over SSL causes the following
operations to fail:

* Uploading Profile/Project icons

* Uploading backup files in Maintenance
* Importing replacement tables
* Importing certificates
* Uploading files in the XML Transformer Filter
* Importing device list

- Received Fax Document Transfer Failure

If transfer of a received fax document has failed, check the device's Document
Server.
The failed document may be present in the Document Server.
If you can not find it in the Document Server, try restarting the device
and check the Document Server again.

- Using the AdminTool for Extended Periods

Restarting the AdminTool every so often during periods of extended use is
recommended for best performance.
- Using ScanToEmail with McAfee VSE 8.5i SP4
For ScanToEmail to function correctly, McAfee VSE 8.5i SP4 should be
configured as follows:

1. Open the VirusScan Console.

2. Open the Access Protection Properties dialog and select the Access
Protection tab.
3-1. Select the Anti-virus Standard Protection option at the Categories
setting.
3-2. Select the "Prevent mass mailing worms from sending mail" option and
press the [Edit].
3-3. Add the full path pointing to "java.exe" to the "Processes to exclude"
list on the Rule Details dialog. A common path is shown below as an
example.

Example: C:\Program Files\GlobalScan\jre\bin\java.exe

- Scanning color/grayscale images in Serverless Mode

Please note that when a color/grayscale document is scanned in Serverless Mode,
the scanned document is generated in the original orientation in which it has
been scanned. That is, no adjustment is performed on orientation. However, if
PDF Converter is placed in the flow, the scanned document can be adjusted as
specified. Note that in this case, PDF Converter must be placed at the top of
the flow. If a service or a filter is placed before PDF Converter, the document
may not be adjusted properly.
- When using the ADF
When setting another stack onto the ADF when performing a batch scan, be sure
to set them onto the ADF after the [Start] button's LED turns green.
Otherwise, the scan may stop and display the error message "Original(s) are
not set on ADF." For instance, if you set additional originals onto the ADF
immediately before it runs out, this problem may occur.
- Mixed Size support
In order to enable the mixed size function on your device, be sure to update
the firmware to the latest version. Otherwise, the mixed size function may
Page 6
Readme.txt
become unavailable.
- Screen display failure when data disk is full
If you perform a Refresh via the operation panel when the server's data
drive (HDD) is full, the screen may display the error message "Failed to
connect to the server." and no normal operation panel screens will be displayed.
- OS Language settings for distribution servers
When using a Distribution Plug-in (for FTP/File/WebDAV distribution), make
sure that the language of the OS of the target server is the same as
that of the OS of the PC on which GlobalScan NX is installed.
- Assign Metadata for WebDAV distribution
When you press the [Add] button on the Properties screen of the Send To WebDAV
feature, the screen for adding Start Point Paths will show up. This screen has
the Assign Metadata Elements tab. However, any settings made via the tab will
not be reflected in the file sent to the WebDAV server because the function
is not supported by the servers that Send To WebDAV currently supports.
- Document distribution without the Image Converter Filter
Without the Image Converter Filter, any output format settings will be invalid.
That is, even if the user specifies the output format via the operation panel,
it will be ignored. So it is recommended that the File Format setting be
placed on the Hidden Items screen located at the bottom of the Scan Settings
tab screen for projects that do not use the Image Converter filter.

- AdminTool in an Windows Vista + IE7 environment

Using IE7 to access the AdminTool on Windows Vista can cause an overwrite save
operation to fail in the following cases if IE7 has Protected Mode enabled:

* Exporting a replacement table

* Downloading a backup file

- Recommended Restarts
If GlobalScan NX crashes or its performance drops, try restarting the device.

- Avoid reusing a file name within one destination folder

When the destination folder already has a file with the same name as the file
being distributed, a suffix is automatically added to the name of the new
file so that nothing is overwritten. However, the addition of the suffix
requires time, and the time required increases as the number of files with
the same name increases. For this reason, using duplicates name should be
avoided for best performance.

- Project, Plug-in, Path and Page Limitations.

GlobalScan NX has the following limitations on the maximum possible number
of Projects, Plug-ins, etc.:

* One Profile can have a maximum of 500 Projects (Server Edition) / 30

Projects (Serverless Edition).
* One Project can have a maximum of 10 Plug-ins.
* One Plug-in can have a maximum of 10 StartPointPaths.
* One document can have a maximum of 500 pages.

Note, however, do not create more than 100 Projects in a Profile when using
Aficio MP 171SPF/LD117SPF/917SPF.

- Using the Kerberos Option for Delivery to Client operating systems

When Kerberos Option is enabled and the destination is running a client
OS (WindowsXP/Vista),an error may occur during the following due to
too many sessions:
* Accessing folders from the operation panel
Page 7
Readme.txt
* Delivering documents to folders
- Load Balancing and Replacement Table Auto Entry
When a Replacement Table has Auto Entry enabled, the new entries are registered
to
the Load Balance Server, not the Main server. Since synchronization only moves
data
from the Main server to the Load Balance servers, those new entries are not
accessible
from the Main server.
Therefore, Load Balance Servers do not support Replacement Table Auto Entry.
This issue also applies to the Secondary Delivery server.
- Retrying Error Jobs
Retrying a large number of error jobs at once may take a long time to process,
which may result in a timeout error message being displayed on the AdminTool. If
this
occurs, please wait until the process completes. Once finished, you can press
the
Refresh button and everything will be back to normal.

- Passive Mode on FTP server when using a firewall

If a firewall is active on the server where GlobalScan NX is installed, please
set the
destination FTP server to passive mode. If the destination server is not in
passive mode,
GlobalScan NX may not be able to connect to the FTP server.

- Limitation on backup and restore

Performing a restoration of backup data is guaranteed only on the same type of
web server
that created the backup. If you need to transfer backup data between different
types of
web servers, a special procedure is required. Please contact the sales company
from whom
you purchased GlobalScan NX for more details.

- Maximum size of upload files with IIS 7.0 7.5

In IIS 7.0 7.5 environment, the size of the files uploadable is limited to about
30 MB
by default. If you need to upload larger files, you can change the limit by
following
the instructions below:
1. Enter the following command in command prompt:
cd %windir%\system32\inetsrv
2. Set maxAllowedContentLength with the following command: (Example: To change
to
50,000,000 bytes)
appcmd set config /section:requestfiltering
/requestlimits.maxallowedcontentlength: 50000000
3. Verify that the specified amount of data can be uploaded.

- Icon size of Profile/Project

Please note that the size (height and width) of the JPEG file to be used as a
Profile/Project
icon must be multiple of 4 pixels. If you specify a file whose height or width
is not a multiple
of 4 pixels, it will be truncated so that the width and height will be multiple
of 4 pixels.
- Limitations affecting MFPs with the 4.3 inch operation panel:
Page 8
Readme.txt
* Profile icons must be 32*32 pixels or smaller. Larger sizes cannot be
displayed on the 4.3 inch panel.
* Project button height must be set to 2 or larger. If set to 1, the project
button's frame is not displayed.
* The bottom-most line of the "Filter" screen is not displayed.
- Unavailability after starting the GlobalScan service
Right after the GlobalScan service is started, the AdminTool login screen may
not be
displayed. If this is encountered, wait for a short time then launch the
AdminTool again.
- Printer driver for the Send to Printer Service
To use the Send to Printer Service, the printer driver used for the service must
be
installed on the computer where GlobalScan NX is installed.
- Print settings for the Send to Printer Service
The Send to Printer Service prints files using the current settings for the
selected
printer driver (*).

(*) The settings for the printer driver of the logon user of GlobalScan Service.

The logon user can be checked from the Services menu of Windows.
- Unsupported printers
The Scan to Printer Service does not support the printers that require user
interaction
at the time of printing or whose output is electronic data, not a printed sheet
of paper.

- Scan to Printer Service using printers with restriction

If the printing function of the printer to be used is restricted by access
rights,
the authentication information of the user who has access to the function must
be
specified in the driver in advance. Ask the administrator of the printer whether
the
printing function of the printer is restricted. Refer to the manual of the
driver for
instructions on how to set up the driver.

- Batch scanning with exposure glass

If you use the exposure glass while [Batch] is selected for [Scan Method],
please note
that the countdown timer will automatically start when a document on the
exposure glass
is scanned. Place the next document within 60 seconds, because otherwise
GlobalScan NX
will automatically send the documents scanned by that time as a job.
- Pressing the Logout key while a message dialog is displayed
If the Logout key is pressed while a message dialog is displayed on the MFP
operation
panel (when you are waiting for a time-consuming process, such as a search
process),
the Group/Project screen will be displayed again but the operation panel will be
unavailable until the background process completes. When a message dialog (such
as a
completion or error message) is displayed for the background process while
Page 9
Readme.txt
waiting,
just press the OK button to close the dialog.

- Assigning Profiles to devices

Please make sure that the profiles distributed to devices are created
appropriately
according to the specifications of the device.
- Scan Preview Limitations
When previewing wideformat scan sizes, the following limitations apply:
1. The preview for scanned A1 wideformat documents cannot be enlarged.
2. The preview for scanned A0 wideformat documents can only be enlarged
minimally.
- Data compatibility between GlobalScan NX regional versions
Import/export and backup/restore data may only be used if the source and target
GlobalScan NX installations are from the same region. Using GlobalScan NX
installations
from different regions (for example, source is the Japanese version and target
is
the Chinese version) is an unsupported action.

- Proxy User Authenticaion with WebDAV delivery

There are some notes to keep in mind when specifying a user name format for the
Proxy User.
Authentication with WebDAV delivery follows:
* Format is "User name@FQDN":
The user will be authenticated as a user of the specified domain.
* Format is "NetBIOS domain name\user name":
NetBIOS domain will not be used for authentication. The Windows server
will
automatically replace it with an appropriate domain

- Show/hide destinations without e-mail address attribute in the address list

A change was made to the default LDAP Search Condition in order to prevent users
without
an e-mail address from being included in the search results for the Send to
Email plug-in:

[To hide (default from 1.5.1.0 or later)]

(&(objectclass=organizationalPerson)(cn=*^s*)(mail=*))

[To show (default until 1.4.4.0)]

(&(objectclass=organizationalPerson)(cn=*^s*))
Only new plug-in instances will use the new LDAP Search Condition. When
upgrading
from 1.4.4.0 or earlier to 1.5.1.0 or later, please modify the condition
manually.

- Send To Email Service & Missing/Invalid email address

The Send To Email Service will report a job as complete as long as the mail
server
accepts GlobalScan NX's email. Even if delivery then fails due to a missing or
invalid destination, GlobalScan NX's log will still report success. This is most
is
likely to occur due to an improperly configured Send To Me.

- Send To Printer Service & Client PC Spooler

The Send to Printer service simply submits jobs to the printer spooler of the PC
where GlobalScan NX is installed. However, this does not mean that the job will
be printed. For example, there could be an issue with the printer spooler or
missing
Page 10
Readme.txt
device authentication information that prevents successful printing. In these
cases,
verify that the print server, printer driver and device are all configured
correctly.
- Replacement Table Filter /Flow Redirect Filter
When using these functions, make sure that all workflows are configured
properly.
Specifically, an improperly configured Flow Redirect Filter can result in data
loss.
Example: If a project contains a Flow Redirect Filter but no output services,
the job (and its data) will not be delivered if there are no matches to
any
of Flow Redirect Filter's redirect conditions since there is no output
service to handle non-redirected jobs. Placing an output service after
the
Flow Redirect Filter avoids this.
- Backing up FAX jobs
Use the "Save FAX Job(s)" setting in AdminTool > System > Job Settings (Server
Edition
Only) to store FAX jobs for the specified period, regardless of its delivery
status.
Also, make sure that the "Storage limit" is longer than the wait period when
using
the "Deliver Fax job(s) on specified day" function. If "Storage limit" is
shorter than
the wait period, the fax job data will be deleted automatically before delivery
is attempted.

- IIS & Client Certificates

If client certificates are enabled for IIS, GlobalScan NX can encounter a HTTP
413
error when a large amount of data is sent. This can cause delivery
failure/missing
pages. To avoid this, disable client certificates or increase IIS'
"UploadReadAheadSize".
See the link below for more details.
http://technet.microsoft.com/ja-jp/library/cc737382(WS.10).aspx
- AD Authentication
The authentication mechanism verifies the time on the client and server systems.
If the configured time is different (adjusted for time zones), authentication
may fail.
Serverless Edition: The device, authentication server, and the delivery server
must
all be synchronized.Server Edition: The GlobalScan NX server, authentication
server, and
the delivery server must be synchronized.
- GSNX AdminTool cannot be browsed from IE9 on Windows 2008 R2 via SSL.
When SSL is configured, IE9 on Windows 2008 R2 fails to open the AdminTool and a
blank page is displayed. This is caused by IE ESC's
"Do not save encrypted pages to disk" option. Please use the following methods
to use IE9 on Windows 2008 R2 via SSL.

Disable (uncheck) "Do not save encrypted pages to disk" on the Internet Options
> Advanced tab. This is described in the following KB:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/815313/en-us

- Use IIS6 on Windows Server 2003 (x64)

AdminTool may not be started up without installing ASP.NET 2.0(32 bit version)
Page 11
Readme.txt
on IIS. To do this, execute following command.
%SYSTEMROOT%\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\aspnet_regiis.exe -i
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/894435/en-us

- OCR Engine Changed

The OCR Plug-in's engine has been changed to the "ABBYY FineReader Engine" as of
v2.0.

- Native 64-bit Support

While the GSNX application now supports 64-bit natively, the following plug-ins
work as WOW64 even if installed with 64-bit installer because of a limitation in an
external library:
* OCR Plug-in
* PDF Convertor
* Barcode Plug-in
* RightFax
* Send to Printer
* Image Converter
* Image Correction
* Installer
* Hot Folder Monitoring Tool
* Activation Tool

- GSNX Server Edition must be restarted after activation.

- The GlobalScan NX V2 AdminTool can synchronize devices which have GSNX v1.5.2 or
later installed.

- Do not synchronize empty profiles with the devices.

- If the HotFolder Plug-in is installed, Zone OCR must be activated and then the
Zone OCR HotFolder Option must
also be activated due to an issue with the OCR license. All Zone OCR jobs will
result in an error if this is not done.
- When GlobalScan NX is configured to use SSL with IIS, port 8080 must be closed
on IIS.
- As of GlobalScan NX v2.1.0.0, one of 3 OCR modes can be selected (Configuration
> System > Job Settings). The modes are:
* Balance (Default)
* Speed Priority
* Recognition Rate Priority

-------- GlobalScan Serverless Edition Restrictions --------

- Automatic file separation in multi-page PDF/TIFF creation

When performing multi-page PDF/TIFF creation for a document of more than 100
pages, file separation is automatically performed every 100 pages, and
thus more than one multi-page PDF/TIFF file will be produced.

- Distributing a document to a shared folder within the WORKGROUP

Please make sure that the local network has correctly setup DNS in order to
distribute a document to a shared folder within the WORKGROUP.

- Device Stand-by mode

If job processing has stopped without completion due to a lack of available
space on the hard disk of the device, the device will be unable to enter
stand-by mode.

Page 12

-------- Recommendations --------

- Backups Regularly
We strongly recommend that you back up regularly all configuration
information of GlobalScan NX. We are not responsible for any loss of nor
damage to your GlobalScan NX configuration information.
-------- Notes --------
- Device Auto Off Timer
During installation of the SDK application, the device's Auto Off Timer must
be set to 6 minutes or longer. After installation this value can be reduced to
a minimum of 1 minute.
-------- Uninstalling GlobalScan NX --------

- Account for uninstallation

To uninstall GlobalScan NX from your computer, you must have administrator
privileges. Please make sure to use the same account that was used when
the product was installed.
- SSL Setup after a Leftover Data Install
It is possible to set up a fresh install of GlobalScan NX with configuration
information from a previous install. But in order to enable SSL on the new
install, the previous SSL settings must be deleted and then new settings made
using the SSL setting tool.
- Uninstallation of Optional Plug-ins
Before you uninstall any optional plug-ins, please make sure that the plug-in
has
been removed from all delivery flows. The plug-in must be deleted from every
flow
before uninstallation.

- Uninstallation and the Job Queue

Be sure to confirm that there are no jobs being processed before uninstalling
the PC/Embedded application, as the content of the job queue is deleted during
uninstallation.

Special Considerations

• When using a customer's PC, the client may be worried about information leaks or data corruption,
so care must be taken to reduce such fears. Before performing operations, it may be best to ask the
customer to sign a memorandum of understanding (such as a Non-disclosure agreement or a
waiver of liability).
• If the service representative is using their PC or a USB device to attach a customer's PC, care should
be taken to not introduce a virus or other malware into the customer's network.

Feature Explanation

1 Software Installation and

This feature installs new SDK software on device(s) and makes the
software on the device(s) ready to use, by using a product key and
Activation
license file.

If the license type which is currently used on the device is “Trial

version”, then the period that the customer can use the software on
Update License the device is limited (for example, 30 days).
This feature will convert the Trial version licenses on the devices to
Official licenses for the continuous usage of the software.

This feature updates an SDK that is already installed and activated

Update Software on a device with a newer version of the software, if newer software is
available on the Component Server.

This feature firstly removes the license file from the device and returns
Software Deactivation and
the license file to the Activation server.
Uninstallation
Then, software uninstallation will be done.

Work State Archive File

Device list, product key list and software list can be saved in a work state archive. All the work state
archives are archived in a zip file but with the extension “*clz”.
We strongly recommend that a work state archive file (*clz) be kept in your service station. This is
because it might take much time and effort to recover information for target devices if the work state
archive file is lost.

Device list

The format is the same as those created by Remote Manager. The file name is Devicelist.csv.

Product key list

One file is created per feature as “Feature name”.txt. Each file contains its product keys, with one line
per product key.

44
Importance of Deactivation

Importance of Deactivation
When using Remote Install Manager, you can perform Software Uninstallation and Deactivation by
selecting “Uninstallation”. 1
Unless deactivation is completely performed, you are not able to do the following:
1. The same product key cannot be re-used for
a.) software re-installation/re-activation on the same device.
b.) software installation/activation on other devices.
2. On the same device (with the same machine ID (serial number)), the same product cannot be
activated, even when preparing another unused product key. (Additional activation for the same
product with a new product key will be refused by the Activation Server.)

< Device Status of Database on the Activation Server >

Before deactivation
• Status column: Activated
After deactivation is completed (= license file is returned to the Activation Server.)
• Status column: Not in use / Deactivated
A product key whose column is “Not in use / Deactivated” can be re-used for the next activation.

Overview of eDC-i system and Remote Install

Manager
1 What you can do with the eDC-i system and Remote Install Manager, or the actual operation you must
perform will differ depending on the internet access environment at the customer site.
Firstly check if your customer site environment is Online or Offline.

Case 1: Online Environment

While Remote Install Manage on a PC is accessing a device at the customer site over a network, internet
access is also possible.

Case 2: Offline Environment

While accessing the device, internet access is not possible at the customer site.

2. Preparation

Prior Confirmation
Environmental Check 2
Online/Offline

Check if the internet connection is available or not at the customer site.

• If the customer does not allow internet connection, the field technician will have to preliminarily
download necessary software packages from the Firmware Download Site.

• Using multiple network interfaces is NOT supported by Remote Install Manager. This means
that both the access to devices and internet connection must be achieved using a network
interface.

There is a “2-visit course” for Offline installation.

57
2. Preparation

In the case of the Online configuration with the automatic verification of supported combinations
disabled or the Offline configuration, download the Embedded Software Combination Table from the
Operation UI Server to check the following:
• Version compatibility of Java VM and system F/W
• Supported combination of SDK applications
• Necessary Heap/Stack size
2

Country Name

[Country Name] is required for the operation of Remote Install Manager. Ask your sales staff for the
correct customer country (domain) before visiting a customer site.

Product Key(s) and Device List/ Work Archive File

Ask the customer to prepare a product key list (CSV file) and a device list (CSV file), or a Work Archive
file (CLZ file).

58
Prior Confirmation

2
• [A]: Product Key List
• [B]: Device List
A sample product key list and device list are stored in a unzipped folder of the Remote Install Manager
zip file as shown below.

• When a software update or uninstallation is performed, using the Work Archive File is strongly
recommended because it contains all the necessary information about all previous operations.

Java VM Version Check

Check if the online-supported Java VM version is installed.

59
2. Preparation

• If an offline-supported but not online-supported Java VM version (e.g. V4.21-23) is installed, the
online-supported version of the Java VM package for the Offline environment must be prepared.
• If a not offline-supported Java VM version (e.g. V4.20 or earlier) is installed, the online-supported
version of Java VM Version-up Tool must be prepared.
Java VM must be updated manually to the online-supported version using the following method.

2 • The Java VM module (*.ifu) will be obtained from the Firmware Download Site.

Type-C Application Check

Check if an SDK application that contains a Type-C module (i.e. modules developed using C++) is going
to be installed/updated/uninstalled.
• ELP-NX includes a Type-C module (FR Filter).
• This kind of application requires additional operations on the MFP/LP operation panel in order to
move the Type-C module stored on the VM card to the target machine’s HDD.
• Therefore, in cases where the target MFP/LP is installed in a remote location, it is necessary to have
a person on-site who is capable of moving the module at the operation panel.

Device Authentication

Ask the customer if all the target devices have the same login user name and password.
• If the device’s user name or password differs from that of Remote Install Manager, software
installation/update/uninstallation will be skipped.

60
3. Installation/Activation

Launching Remote Install Manager

• Do not execute Remote Install Manager in a folder which is encrypted. Otherwise, Remote Install
Manager will not work properly.
1. Download Remote Install Manager.
3
2. Extract the downloaded file to a folder.

Important Notices

About Network Environment and Server Operation

The eDC-i can optimize the Java VM version and adjust the correct Heap/Stack size for a combination
of several SDK software items automatically when the automatic verification of supported combinations
is turned on. However, a correct Java VM version and Heap/Stack size for software to be installed
have to be checked by a field technician if the automatic verification of supported combinations of eDC-i
is not turned on or a customer site does not have internet access. Follow the one of two actions below;
• Download the Embedded Software Combination Table from the Operation UI Server.
• Consult with your sales staff about a correct Java VM version and Heap/Stack size for software to
be installed before visiting a customer site.

About SDK Software Type

Remote Install Manager can complete the installation and uninstallation only for Type J software. If
software to be installed has mixed type software (type C and J), Type C software has to be installed
from the operation panel of the target machine. Check if software to be installed includes Type C
software.

About Operations to Multiple Devices

Operation from Remote Install Manager is effective only for devices which have the same administration
authentication settings (user name and password) as the ones in the Environment Settings of Remote
Install Manager. If some devices have different administrator authentication settings from the ones in the
Environment Settings of Remote Install Manager, operation to those devices is cancelled.

63

2. ABOUT GLOBALSCAN NX
GlobalScan NX bridges the gap between hardcopy and electronic workflows by enabling a network-
connected MFP to convert paper documents, such as contracts, invoices, and brochures, into easily
shared digital images. Once in electronic form, the file can be delivered to customers, clients, and
colleagues, either around the corner or around the globe. GlobalScan NX can process and deliver
documents scanned by the MFP and documents received by fax.

GlobalScan NX Feature Summary

The high-quality images can be distributed using a variety of Services, including Send to Email, Send to
Folder, Send to FTP, and Send to WebDAV, even indexed and linked to a back-end Document
Management System (DMS). In doing so, the device running the GlobalScan NX application leverages
your network to achieve important business goals, namely:
• Maximizing your investment in technology by integrating scan functionality on an accessible copier
platform, streamlining workflow and enhancing productivity.
• Improving overall business processes by creating an efficient digital workflow for the conversion of
paper-based documents into easily distributed electronic files.
• Facilitating secure, paperless communication. Recipients view, archive, or distribute electronic files,
reducing the volume of paper on the desktop, saving storage space, and reducing supply costs.
• Reducing turnaround time when responding to those who require time-sensitive documents.
• Eliminating the need for individual desktop scanners.

3. SOFTWARE INSTALLATION
This chapter explains how to install GlobalScan NX Server Edition or Serverless Edition software. After
installation is complete, you will be able to launch the GlobalScan NX AdminTool and begin
configuring and managing the connected MFP(s).

Preparing to Install GlobalScan NX Software

In addition to a "Built-in Web Server (default)", IIS is also supported. If you want to use IIS, it is
necessary to set up IIS on the PC before installing the GlobalScan NX software.

• After software installation, the Administrator must configure the necessary network settings and
Distribution Parameters to support scan functionality on the GlobalScan NX-enabled MFP(s).
• You must log on to the computer you will install the software on using an account that has
administrator privileges.
• MFPs’ Auto-Off Timer needs to be set to 5 minutes or longer as long as GlobalScan NX is installed.
This limitation is caused by the way applications are loaded on MFPs. If an MFP enters sleep mode
before an application and its associated software finish starting up, the MFP might not work
correctly.

Managing the Server Certificate

Managing the Server Certificate

In order to use HTTPS to secure communication between the PC/Server, with the GlobalScan NX
AdminTool, and a connected MFP, it is necessary to install a server certificate. HTTPS is a
communication protocol that includes SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) data encryption. When a Web
browser communicates with PC/Server installed with the AdminTool, a secure handshake authenticates
the session using a public and private key, provided by the certificate. The public key is used to encrypt
information and the private key is used to decipher it.
By obtaining and installing a certificate, from a trusted Certificate Authority (CA), it is possible to protect
GlobalScan NX data.

• When using SSL, it is not necessary to install certificates on registered MFPs, as the VM card
contains a self-certified web server.
• A maximum of two server certificates can be managed per PC.
• If IIS is specified as the Web server for GSNX, only the On/Off feature is provided. See p.61
"IIS - SSL On/Off".
• If you will be using the failover or load balancing functions and want to protect the data, you must
install server certificates on the servers that you will use for these functions.

• When SSL is used, the URL of the AdminTool must be specified as follows:
https://FQDN:PortNo/DirectoryName/
Use the same URL that was entered for the Common Name [CN] by the Administrator. For details,
see GlobalScan NX Administrator's Guide.

Managing the Site Certificate

For Server and Serverless Editions, a Site Certificate is required in order to utilize SSL/TSL to encrypt
data communication, thus secure the path between the GlobalScan NX PC/server and destination
servers, for example, SMTP, LDAP or WebDAV servers.
For the LDAP server, the Site Certificate enables you to secure User Authentication and Address Book
search operations. Furthermore, when running the Serverless Edition, the Site Certificate secures the
connection between the MFP and the target destination, thus document data is protected from possible
interception.

Parameters can be set by means of the AdminTool and/or the MFP display panel. For example, it
is possible to pre-set only the "To" address(es) and the file format by using the AdminTool and
leave the "Cc" address(es) and the Subject unset so that users can specify them from the display
panel when they scan a document.
Failover
Failover is a function where job processing switches from the Primary Delivery Server (the main
processing server) to a Secondary Delivery Server if the Primary Delivery Server fails due to a
connection error or other cause.
Filter
A Filter represents a set of criteria that defines input/output, controlling how the document is
processed. Filters are added to Projects according to application needs and may require that
additional settings be configured via the AdminTool and/or the MFP display panel.
Flow
A Flow (or Workflow) represents a document distribution process for a Project. Each Project has a
Flow that holds the details of the Services/Filters used in the Project. The Flow for each Project is
configured by the Administrator via the AdminTool.
GlobalScan NX Server Edition
The Server Edition of GlobalScan NX supports the configuration and management of up to 750
(for the Enterprise Server Edition) or 32 (for the Business Server Edition) connected devices. The
Server Edition requires that the GlobalScan NX application and AdminTool software be installed
on a PC. The Server Edition offers the most advanced feature-set for document capture and
distribution, including image enhancements and plug-ins. The Server Edition requires a dedicated
Server PC to maintain all the system settings and data necessary for distribution. All Services and
related processes necessary for document distribution are performed by the Server PC.
GlobalScan NX Serverless Edition
GlobalScan NX Serverless Edition enables control of connected MFPs without the need for a
dedicated Server PC, thus there is no overhead associated with network server integration. All
Services and related processes necessary for document distribution are performed within the
MFP(s).

8. APPENDIX

Group
A Group allows the Administrator to group Projects registered with a Profile. Groups are added to
a Profile by creating a new Group or editing an existing Group, as needed. For example, Projects
of a Profile can be grouped based on their job type, names, etc. Groups are useful when a Profile
has multiple registered Projects. Groups are displayed as tabs on the MFP display panel.
Load Balancing
Load balancing is a method to increase job processing efficiency by distributing jobs to several
servers. Several jobs can then be processed simultaneously, increasing the rate at which jobs are
completed.
Metadata
Metadata can be added to each scanned document. The Administrator can design Metadata for a
Project by combining available input components, such as a text box and a drop-down list. Like
Distribution Parameters, the value of each input component can be set via the AdminTool and/or
MFP display panel. The values given through the Metadata are added as document information to
the scanned document. These values can be utilized as Distribution Parameters in Services/Filters.
Profile
A Profile is a set of parameters that is applied to the MFP. These parameters are configured by the
Administrator in order to control MFP operation.
Project
A Project refers to a document distribution task, or collection of Services that are available to users,
and is configured by the Administrator to address application needs of a specific user group.
Secondary Delivery Server
When you enable the failover function, the Secondary Delivery Server processes jobs in the event
that the main server is down. If the main server fails, for example it loses its network connection,
processing is automatically switched to the Secondary Delivery Server.
Sends scanned images as an email message from the MFP to one or more addresses.
Send to Folder
Sends scanned images from the MFP to the specified folder(s) on a network directory.
Send to FTP
Sends scanned images from the MFP to the specified folder(s) on an FTP server.
Send to WebDAV
Sends scanned images from the MFP to the specified folder(s) on a WebDAV (Web-based
Distributed Authoring and Versioning) server.
Services
A Service represents a distribution method used during document processing. For example, the
Send to Email Service.

Overview

“Single Sign‐on” (SSO) allows the user to authenticate to
a GlobalScan NX (GS NX) version 1.2 and above
environment, that incorporates the Card Authentication

Package (CAP) version 1.2 and above at the MFP using
only one authentication step.
SSO eliminates the necessity of first authenticating to
the MFP via Card Authentication Package and then
authenticating again via GlobalScan NX to the user’s
network.
For Single Sign‐on to function Card Authentication
Package and GlobalScan NX must be properly installed

and operational and both applications MUST be set to
the same authentication type.
Screen 1: SSO allows for one simple login.
