Sc] (Computational Science and Engineering)

Eligibility & Entry Requirement


Applicants with a Degree from Bangladesh, China, India, Iran, or
Pakistan will have to submit a GRE (General) Test. Technical
University Munich has defined required minimum scores, lower
scores will not be accepted!

 The required scores are:


 Verbal reasoning: (will not be taken into account anymore)
 Quantitative reasoning: 157
 Analytical writing: 3.5
 The Institution Code: 7806, Department: 5199 ("all other
departments").

The program is open to students with a bachelor's or master's


degree in one of the following disciplines:

 engineering (e.g. Mechanical, Civil, Electrical, etc. Engineering)


 science (e.g. Physics, Biology, Chemistry, etc.)
 informatics/computer science (be aware that CSE is not
Computer Science, M.Sc. Informatics)
 applied mathematics
 an equivalent subject

In addition, you will need to prove you have the following skills:

a solid understanding of mathematics at an advanced level (see


"Solid basic knowledge in Mathematics" below)
knowledge of a modern programming language, e.g. C++, Java,
Python, Fortran (see "Solid basic programming skills" below)
very good English language skills

Alternatively, students can submit a scorecard of the Indian GATE


test (Computer Science; for M.Sc. CSE the Mechanical Engineering
Test will also be accepted). The minimal qualifying score of the
respective year is necessary.

 Bachelor's degree in computer science, math, or in a closely
related field. Very good command of mathematics and
theoretical computer science (e.g. differential equations,
linear algebra, analysis, formal languages, formal grammars,
Turing machines, decidability, complexity theory, logic,
automata, algorithms and data structures, operation
systems, computer networks, computer architecture).
 English language proficiency level C1 (to find out which
language certificates are accepted, please go to Application /
English language proficiency).

Application
Application: Applications will be done electronically. These are the
documents needed:
 original undergraduate diploma or certified
copy (bachelor's or equivalent), if already
available (see below)
 original undergraduate transcript of
records or certfied copy, showing all courses
and credits taken and all grades/marks
obtained as well as the final/current overall
average grade (see below),
 if applicable: letter or certificate issued by your
university, stating one of the following:
registration, submission or completion of your
final thesis, or expected graduation date (see
below),
 your English proficiency test result (details see
below),
 an APS certificate (only for applicants who
have studied in China or Vietnam).

Please note that all additional documents have to be


merged into one pdf document before you can upload

Undergraduate diploma and transcript of records: If
you have completed your studies, but not yet received
the bachelors diploma, the transcript of records has to
show the total number of credit points, final grade and
the remark "degree conferred" or "degree awarded". If
not, please submit an additional confirmation letter
from the university stating the total number of credit
points, the final grade and that the degree has been
conferred.
If you have not yet completed your undergraduate
studies, please submit letter or certificate issued by
your university, stating one of the following:
registration, submission or completion of your final
thesis, or expected graduation date.
English language proficiency:
The following English language certificates are
accepted: Academic IELTS (minimum 7.0), TOEFL
(minimum internet-based score 95), Cambridge CAE or
CPE, Pearson PTE Academic (min. 76), telc University,
TOEIC, OOPT. Only native speakers from the USA, the
UK, Australia, New Zealand and Canada are exempted
from submitting one of these English language
certificates. A confirmation that the medium of
instruction at your university was English is not
sufficient.
Please note: Incomplete applications will not be
considered. Certificates issued in a language other than
German or English must be accompanied with a
translation by an authorized translator.

application portal, it does not always indicate the
specifics of the application for this specific program.

fulfill the special prerequisites specified in the
Admissions: admission regulations. This is a courtesy translation of

Applications for the winter semester 2022 will begin
on April 1, 8:00 am CEST.
Application May 31 (non-EU nationals), July 15 (EU nationals) for
deadlines: the winter semester.

Curriculum
To obtain the Master's degree, students will complete
  seven lectures (either 1 advanced lecture + 6 specialization
courses
or 2 advanced lectures + 5 specialization course) 42 ECTS
credits
 two seminars, 6 ECTS credits
 one lab course, 6 ECTS credits
 one study project, 18 ECTS credits
 the thesis, 30 ECTS credits
In addition, they will obtain 18 ECTS credits in the so-called
“Customized Course Selection” area which allows to take a look
outside the box by completing some courses in subjects other than
Computer Science.

Within this structure, students have got three different options:
1. Open Curriculum: This is the most flexible option. Students
can freely select their courses from the whole range offered
by the Department of Computer Science as long as they fit
into the above mentioned program structure.
2. Specialization in Cyber-Physical Systems: Students who
want to obtain a Master of Science degree in Computer
Science with a specialization in Cyber-Physical Systems have
to choose four of the above mentioned seven lectures as
well as the study project and the master thesis from the
field of Cyber-Physical Systems:

3. Specialization in Artificial Intelligence: Students who want
to obtain a Master of Science degree in Computer Science
with a specialization in Artificial Intelligence have to choose
four of the above mentioned seven lectures as well as the
study project and the master thesis from the field of

Organizational note for students of the previous exam regulations
(PO 2011):
In summer semester 2020, all students, who did not object,
have automatically been transferred to the new PO 2020 exam
regulations. The model study plan / curriculum for the PO 2011 exam
