Test methods 3.3.1. Magnetic particle inspection or penetrant inspection Magnetic particle inspection as specified in Stahl-Eison- Prifolatt (Iron and steel test sheet) 1936 or panotrant ‘testing as specitied in Stah/-Eisen-Pritblatt 1836 shall bo used for verifying that the stwel casting conforms to the requirements regarding the external condition os given in table 1 or 2. In the ease af eastings made from non-mag- netizable grades of cast steel, penetrant Inspection shall 'bo used, and in the cate of castings of magnetizable (ferromagnetic) grades of cast steel, magnetic particle Inspection shail be used for proference. ‘Magnetic particle inspection shall be used for inspecting machined surfaces unless otherwise agraed (see subclause 22). ‘Tho sorios of illustrations shown in Appandix A may be used as an ald for assessing non-linear indications on the basis of magnetic particle inspection and the series of lustrations shown in Appendix B may be used for assessing non-linear indications on the basis of penetrant Inspection (see subclause 2.1). Each illustration corre- sponds to one of the severity levels 1 to B as in table 1 fF severity levels 01 to 6 asin table 2. The procedure for determining the severity level isto place a frame with inside dimensions of 148 mm X 105 mm (size A6) over the least favourable area and to find the eame or the next least favourable raference illustration in the seri 3.3.2 Rediogrephic or ultrasonie inspection 3.3.2.1. Unless otherwise agreed at the time of ordering, ‘the choice of text method shall ba left tothe manufacturer. ‘The following should be observed when making the choice: In the vase of austenitic mate inspection chal be carried out.
