1. What is Carbon Exchange?

a. The process in which carbon atoms

continually travel from the
atmosphere to the Earth and then
back into the atmosphere.
b. How carbon transfers between
different reservoirs located on Earth
c. Important for maintaining a stable
climate and carbon balance on Earth

2. How is it related to Carbon Footprint?

a. Carbon cycle: Carbon travels through a series of reservoirs in the atmosphere,
or pools, which is a semicircular pattern.
b. Carbon footprint: The amount of CO2 emissions that occur per unit amount of
land area per year is a quantitative measure of climate change.
c. The two can be used interchangeably to measure carbon emission.
d. They are used by individuals, companies, governments,
and NGOs to measure their carbon projects and to
work toward reducing the amount of carbon they emit.

3. What is the importance of Carbon Cycle on Earth?

a. It moves carbon, a life-sustaining element, from the atmosphere and oceans into
organisms and back again to the atmosphere and oceans.
b. Maintains a stable climate and carbon balance on our planet.
c. Without it, the Earth would be frozen.

4. How do plants help balance the Carbon Exchange on Earth?

a. Scientists have a strong understanding of the major parts and functions that
plants play in the Carbon Exchange on Earth.
b. These roles and processes include:
i. Absorbing carbon dioxide
ii. Converting it to plant-available forms
iii. Fixing atmospheric nitrogen
iv. Storing carbon as plant biomass
v. Their role in biodiversity
