Practising teachers can use Teachers’ Standards to support their own professional development and

growth. It has been shown that teachers can benefit from observing colleagues in the classroom and
that teachers learn best from other professionals. Observing and being observed, having opportunities
to plan, prepare, reflect and teach with other teachers can help to improve the quality of teaching.
Feedback from colleagues has been shown to be most valuable.

Teacher standards also inform the development of professional learning goals, provide a framework by
which teachers can judge the success of their learning and assist self-reflection and self-assessment.
Teachers can use 12the Standards to recognise their current and developing capabilities, professional
aspirations and achievements.Standards contribute to the professionalisation of teaching and raise the
status of the profession. They could also be used as the basis for a professional accountability model,
helping to 13ensure that teachers can demonstrate appropriatelevels of professional knowledge,
professional practice and professional engagement.

Teaching is a dynamic and rewarding profession. Good teachers provide students with rich, interesting
and well-structured learning experiences. Teachers who provide these experiences enjoy the
opportunities offered by the profession and recognition of their achievements by the community.

In teacher quality, teacher is the adjective and quality is the noun. In this phrase we’re talking about all
the strong positive aspects as related to one particular profession. For example, you can try to design a
tool to measure teacher quality.

Teachers play a crucial role in nation building. Through quality teachers, the Philippines can develop
holistic learners who are steeped in values, equipped with 21st century skills, and able to propel the
country to development and progress. This is in consonance with the Department of Education vision of
producing: “Filipinos who passionately love their country and whose values and competencies enable
them to realize their full potential and contribute meaningfully to building the nation” (DepED Order No.
36, s. 2013).
