THE EFFECTS OF SELF LEARNING TO THE GRADE 10 STUDENTS DURING THE PANDEMIC

INTRODUCTION

CHAPTER 1

BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY- The school system has been subjected to fast changes as the breakout of
COVID-19 continues to spread at a rapid rate not just in China but also internationally (Education: From
Disruption to Recovery, 2022); Mothers are the child's immediate aides in self learning, which is why self
learning is the current primary education learning mode in the Philippines, where traditional teacher-
student practice has been moved to mother-child. Self learning is the current primary education learning
mode in the Philippines. As a consequence of this, they take a significant part in the education of their
children. Dealagdon, T. (2021). In contrast, self-learning refers to the process of acquiring knowledge in
a manner that is centered on the learner. While in-person teaching is becoming less common, more
people are opting to receive their education through online platforms. Self-learning modules are
designed to give the student entire control over the content, method, timing, and location of their
educational pursuits. The open learning process relies heavily on the participant's capacity for
adaptability. As new forms of digital communication technology become more widespread, traditional
methods of education are falling out of favor. The student is growing more accustomed to education
that is not provided in a formal setting, which has led to a preference for methods of self-learning. The
vast majority of written resources currently available are geared for individual study of some kind.

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM- The primary purpose of this research is to investigate the outcomes of
the self-learning situations faced by students enrolled in the tenth grade at the Kidapawan City National
High School. More specifically, it determines the effects that are as follows:

1. How did the self-learning situation affect the Grade 10 students of KCNHS?

2. What are the challenges and difficulties encountered by the students with the current self-learning
situation

3. How did the students cope with this issue?

4. Why self learning is more difficult during the pandemic than the last few years before the pandemic

RESEARCH OBJECTIVES—This study aims to explore the effects of self learning situation to Grade 10
students during the pandemic. Furthermore it has the following specific objectives:

A.) To determine the impact of self learning situation to Grade 10 students

B.) To explore the challenges and difficulties encountered by grade 10 students
C.) To gain knowledge about how they coped with the current situation.
STATEMENT OF HYPOTHESIS:

1. There is a significant difference in the outcome of self-learning for students in grade 10 before and
during the pandemic, and this difference has a significant effect.

SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY-

SCOPE AND DELIMITATION - The primary goal of this study is to explore the impact of self learning
situation of grade 10 students in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic that could help students and
teacher's in gaining knowledge about this phenomenon. Thus, the data collection will only be limited to
twenty (20) grade 10 students from Kidapawan City National High School, and will be interviewed as a
phenomenological approach through a virtual key informant (KII) and focus group discussion (FGD),
since actual interview is prohibited. For the time framework, the study is set in a limited time because of
the number of weeks left in the S.Y. 2021-2022.

REVIEW ON RELATED LITERATURE

According to the study of Dargo and Dimas (2021), it is found that the learners' GWA decreased by 2.25
percent after MDL was implemented, indicating a substantial difference in their academic performance.
MDL improves family bonds, promotes individual learning, and is cost-effective.J

On the authority of Lin et.al(2017),These outcome highlight the importance of self-assessment

interventions to encouraging students to take on learning strategies and its effect on motivational
variables like self-efficacy.

According to schunk et.al (2021) Self-regulatory systems influence learners' achievement thoughts,
behaviors, and emotions, according to research. We begin by discussing some of the ideas that support
self-regulation theories, and then we go through five of them: operant, information processing,
developmental, social constructive, and social cognitive. With this theoretical foundation in place, we
will review self-regulation research that has discovered self-regulatory systems and investigated how
they operate during learning. We also go through two strategies that aim to help students improve their
self-control.

According to Ernesto P.(2017) The review finds two primary findings. First, the SRL models create an
integrated and cohesive framework from which to conduct research and on which students may be
educated to be more strategic and successful. Second, depending on the available meta-analytic data,
there are differential impacts of SRL models in light of variances in pupils' developmental phases or
educational levels. Thus, researchers and instructors need to start Using these differential impacts of the
SRL models and approaches to boost kids' learning and SRL skills

According to Ifinedo P.(2018) The study's findings suggest that these characteristics have a significant
impact on satisfaction. This research establishes the blog as a useful learning tool and offers
consequences and suggestions.
According to Proceeding of 2016. This paper presents the findings of a study that looked into the
interaction of intrinsic and extrinsic goal orientations, and self-efficacy The impact of metacognitive
methods on students A student's performance in a CS1 class. We also provide updates on key events.
Relationships between SRL constructs varies by gender. as well as learning outcomes We discovered that
student performance has improved. Motivational and SRL predecessors were predicted, but The
interaction of these components generated some surprising results. relationships. Furthermore, we
discovered that females' self-efficacy is higher than males'. had a distinct relationship to programming
success than that of their male counterparts Additional study into success in The uniqueness of
beginning programming should be taken into account. SRL and student progress have a complicated
relationship, as as well as unique gender disparities in these connections to the CS
