Topic: Indian Carnatic Music

Objectives:
 Differentiate carnatic music and Chongak;
 Identify the instrument in a Carnatic music;
 Analyze music influenced by Carnatic music; and
 Compose a song that resembles features in Carnatic music.

Overview:
Indian music has come a long way since its first records at around 200-400 BC. Bharatha Muni, a
musicologist, wrote down a basic music theory of that time called Natya.
Upon arrival of the Mughals, several Hindu kings escaped to the south. Territories of the Mughals were called
Hindustan and territories by Hindu kings were called Carnatic. This is why the two branches of Indian music are
called Hindustani and Carnatic.
Lesson Proper
Carnatic Music
Pundara Dasa is credited as the founder of Carnatic Music. He devised teaching methods and composed music
as well. His most important contribution is the codifying of teaching elements of music into graded steps.
Carnatic Music is based primarily on ragas(melodic scale) and talas(rhythmic cycle). There are seven talas and
72 basic ragas. All other ragas music---tyagaraja, Muthuswami Dikshitar, and Shyama Shastri---created a lot of
Krithis(composition) that have influenced many musicians up to this day.
Carnatic music is highly devotional and spiritual. Its aim is always to find Brahman or GOD. In Hindu
teachings, one of the easiest ways to reach God is through music. Even the Hindu God each have their own musical
instrument.
Musical Analysis
With regards to tuning, all Indian music are tuned in just a temperament as opposed to an equal temperament
in western music. There are 22 notes in one octave on the Indian scale.
The presence of gamaka or microtones is also related to the first characteristics of having more than 12 notes
per octave. Indian music occurs at different frequencies because of the sliding aesthetic.
Notes are called Swara, and there are 7 of it: sa, ri, ga, ma, pa, dha, and mi, which are based of the real names
of Swaras wgich are Shadjam, Rishabham, GAndharam, PAnchamam, Dhaivatham, and Nishadham.
Raga is the subset of notes chosen from the 22 notes, plus all the sliding and microtones assosiated with the
seven notes.
Tala is the rhythmic cycle of carnatic music. These rhythmic cycles are based on the phrasing of words on the
melody.

Architecture
The first mosque of Islam was the house of the Islamic prophet Mohammed in Medina. When it was
first built by prophets Muhammad and his companions, it was made of simple blocks. However, as time passes
and different Muslim empires and rulers were honored to role Medina, the mosque has been subjected to
different constructions. The last one of them is that done by the Saudi different kings. The current construction
is the prototype of all later sacred architecture of Islam. The current design of the mosque pays great attention
to all details. Apparently and most importantly, the floor and carpet that are touched in prayer with the
head. There are different regional styles of architecture in Saudi Arabia, and they are divided into different
styles. In the Najd region, most buildings are made of mud-brick covered by mud-plaster. In the Hijaz region,
most buildings are made of coral rag and wood, with roofs made of palm thatch and wooden beams. There are
many Ottoman influences on the architecture in this region.

Topic: TEAM SPORTS (The Basic of Basketball)
Objectives:
 discuss the nature and background of basketball
 explain the health and fitness benefits derived from playing basketball
 practice proper and acceptable behavior (e.g., fairness, respect for authority) when participating in basketball
 identify the basic moves or skills associated in basket ball

Overview:
In this module learners will be given activities to activate their prior knowledge and to know the key concepts
of the lesson. They will also give tentative responses to questions given; identify misconceptions and alternative
concepts about the lesson based on their responses; be informed of the assessment technique to be used; be provided
with information they need to learn about team sports, specifically basketball; and assess their knowledge by
answering the given focus questions at the end of this part of the lesson.
Lesson Proper:
Brief History of Basketball
The game of basketball as it is known today was created by Dr. James Naismith in December 1891 in
Springfield, Massachusetts, to condition young athletes during cold months. ... Upon the request of his boss, Naismith
was tasked to create an indoor sports game to help athletes keep in shape in cold weather.

Warm-Up for Basketball

 A slow jog (a lap or two of an oval, or if inside a few laps of the gym)
 15 minutes of stretching - involving static stretches (quads, hamstrings, calves, torso, shoulders) followed by
dynamic stretches (arm circles and swings, leg swings).
 Runs up and down along the side of the court.
There are 5 common types of basketball passes:
 Bounce pass.
 Chest pass.
 Overhead pass.
 One-hand push pass.
 Baseball pass.

What does catch mean in basketball?

In basketball, catching is the act of receiving the ball into your own possession via a pass from another teammate or a
rebound off a missed shot. Catching is an extremely important and fundamental skill in the sport of basketball.

Important Points in catching the basketball

1. Always keep your eyes on the ball

What Is Dribbling in Basketball?
In basketball, dribbling is a fundamental skill in which a player uses one hand to continuously bounce the ball
on the court. Dribbling helps you control the ball, advance it toward the hoop, and create distance between you and
your defender.
Basic types of Dribbles:
 Low dribble
 High bounce dribble
 Cross over
Shooting
In playing basketball, the goal of the player is to put the ball through the ring to earn points. Shooting is the most
important skill in basketball. ... The integration of the mental and mechanical aspects of shooting fosters shooting
success. Development of an accurate shot forces your defender to play you tight and become vulnerable to a fake,
allowing you to pass and drive as well as shoot.
Fundamentals in shooting
To shoot accurately, square your shoulders to the basket and place your feet shoulder length apart. With your knees
bent slightly and back leaning towards the basket, put the fingers of your shooting hand under the ball and tuck your
elbows close to your body.
Types of shots:
 Push shot, two hands
 Push shot, one hand
 Lay-up
 Free throw

Section: __________________________________

Topic: Spread of Diseases

Objectives:
1. Define a communicable disease.
2. Identify common communicable disease.
3. Discuss the signs, symptoms, and effects of common communicable diseases.
Overview:
Infectious diseases commonly spread through the direct transfer of bacteria, viruses or other germs
from one person to another. This can happen when an individual with the bacterium or virus touches, kisses, or
coughs or sneezes on someone who isn't infected.

Lesson Proper
What is a communicable disease?
A communicable disease is one that is spread from one person to another through a variety of ways that
include: contact with blood and bodily fluids; breathing in an airborne virus; or by being bitten by an
insect.Reporting of cases of communicable disease is important in the planning and evaluation of disease
prevention and control programs, in the assurance of appropriate medical therapy, and in the detection of
common-source outbreaks. California law mandates healthcare providers and laboratories to report over 80
diseases or conditions to their local health department. Some examples of the reportable communicable
diseases include Hepatitis A, B & C, influenza, measles, and salmonella and other food borne illnesses.

How does the immune system work?

The immune system has a vital role: It protects your body from harmful substances, germs and cell
changes that could make you ill. It is made up of various organs, cells and proteins. As long as your immune
system is running smoothly, you don’t notice that it’s there. But if it stops working properly – because it’s
weak or can't fight particularly aggressive germs – you get ill. Germs that your body has never encountered
before are also likely to make you ill. Some germs will only make you ill the first time you come into contact
with them. These include childhood diseases like chickenpox.

What is Acute Respiratory Infection?

Acute respiratory infection is an infection that may interfere with normal breathing. It can affect just
your upper respiratory system, which starts at your sinuses and ends at your vocal chords, or just your lower
respiratory system, which starts at your vocal chords and ends at your lungs.
Examples of Acute Respiratory Infections
1. Common Cold
2. Influenza
3. Pertussis
4. Pneumonia
5. Bronchitis
Other Respiratory Infections
