Introduction

I
t’s easy to fall into the trap of infinite scrolling, you won’t
even notice when you become addicted to it.

Twitter is not like any other social platform, it has

something that other platforms can not give you and that is
an “Environment of growth mindset people”.

No matter what you want to achieve in life or in general, Twitter

can take you there if you use it for good reasons.

Let’s not deny the fact that, if you are disciplined, nothing can
distract you. It’s just, you have to learn things and operate
accordingly.

As a student, you have the freedom to invest your time in any

way you want, you will not find anyone telling you how to invest
your time on the right thing, except a few close people that want
to see you grow.

1
TWITTER FOR STUDENTS

Assume for a moment that I am one of the closest people. It

really makes me happy when I see someone using the internet
to make their career.

In the last 2 and a half years, I have friends who were also
students at some point and they are currently at another level,
just because they choose to used Twitter for growth and career.

Someone is making hundreds of thousands of dollars as a

Developer advocate, someone is making $200-300 just to make
a tweet, someone is getting high paying freelancing clients,
someone making monthly recurring money from a tool.

There are infinite possibilities, you just have to learn to use it

well.

Let’s discover what are the ways in which you can use Twitter
to make money and achieve your goals.

( Surprises at the end of the book)

2
2

Share your learning

I
t’s a way to start the conversation and attract people. Start
with sharing your learnings, it can be anything that you
learnt or love to talk about.

Just share about it, either in the form of single tweets, threads,
listicles, or visual graphics.

You just have to do it. You see, most people cannot take this first
step. You can be different from them just by putting these words
into action

3
3

Engage, don’t just lurk

I
have seen people lurking and actively checking out things
without engaging with you.

As Sahil Lavingya (Founder, Gumroad) puts this really well.

90% of the folks on the internet just consume, they don’t even
contribute. When you engage with someone on Twitter, it’s a
form of contribution you make.

So, please don’t be like 90% of the internet user. Be selfish,

4
ENGAGE, DON’T JUST LURK

if you are investing your time on Twitter make it worth every

minute.

If you find something that inspires you to share your thoughts

around it, take time and write valuable a comment. You never
know that one comment can attract new connections to your
profile and it’s something, I’m sharing from my personal
experience.

5
4

Use Advance Search Effectively

I
t’s one of the magical features of Twitter, but you need a
clear context before you can make the most out of it.

For example, if you are looking for an internship, Twitter

advance search can help you in that.

Want to know how? Check it out here

6
5

Don’t Spam

I
f you are on Twitter to make a long-term sustainable
career, don’t spam.

Spamming also gives out a negative signal to your existing

followers, it will be visible on their feed and you won’t like the
feeling of getting muted by them.

Twitter is very strict about a few things and spamming is on top

of the list. If Twitter finds out you are spamming, your account
will be suspended in the next moment.

Be careful about it and no matter whatever you do.

7
6

Create permissionless projects for

people you admire

T
his point is really close to my heart, I have a list of
people that I admire most and I have a dream to work
with them and get on a call with them.

But, before discovering Twitter I didn’t know how to make it

possible. Twitter opened the door through a permissionless
project.

If you admire anyone and you have the same dream as mine,
create a crazy permissionless project that will amaze them.

You will find a way to make your dream come true.

Recently, I along with my Team came up with an exciting

surprise for Ankur Warikoo.

We all love and admire him so much that can’t be explained in

words.

8
CREATE PERMISSIONLESS PROJECTS FOR PEOPLE YOU ADMIRE

And, this is what happened after he get to see the surprise, it

was also one of the permissionless projects.

9
7

Leverage the power of your proof of

work

I
f you are really serious about landing opportunities and
you have proof of work, you will not find any better place
than Twitter.

Twitter has the power to bombard you with opportunities if you

can leverage the power of proof of work.

If you are new to proof of work, you can follow this free guide -

11
8

Use Twitter DM with clear context

T
witter DM(Direct Message) is another hidden door that
opens an abundance of opportunities for you.

Whether you are looking for a freelancing project,

internship, full-time job, co-founder for your startup, funding
or even casual networking, Twitter DM can help with everything.

You have to learn how to use it and that can be done by being
polite, humble and sharing what exactly you are looking for
from the next person.

12
9

Be careful about who are you following

T
here is a famous saying, “You are the output of people
you spend most of your time”

The same applies to the internet also, nowadays we

spend more time on the internet than making interactions in
real life.

Whoever you choose to follow, choose them wisely. It will define

you at the end of the day because you will be consuming and
interacting with them only.

13
10

Stay away from unproductive rabbit

holes

A
rabbit hole is a metaphor that defines something that
you dig deep into easily once you are interested in it.
Well, it’s a great thing to do but the majority of the time
you will get attracted to unproductive rabbit holes

If the rabbit hole is for your growth and helping you learn
something or deep study then it’s completely fine.

But, once it’s making a bad impact on you, it’s dangerous.

Try to keep yourself away from unproductive rabbit holes, you

have to figure out by yourself, whether something is productive
or unproductive rabbit holes.

14
11

Twitter Bio and Picture (Profile &

Header)

N
ow reading all the above points, you must have got a
decent idea of how you should use Twitter. Now comes
the very important part, which is what to mention on
your bio and your profile picture.

Let me get this straight, if you want to build a genuine connec-

tion on Twitter, you have to come in front of the people.

For bio:

Try to add things you love learning and are interested in and
what you usually tweet about on Twitter. It will give out a clear
idea of what value you can provide to the other person coming
to your profile.

If you are confused, it’s natural. Your bio is not something

permanent, you can always update it over time. The catch here
is to understand the game and play along.

15
TWITTER FOR STUDENTS

For Profile Picture you can use a decent picture of yours, doesn’t
have to be super professional like you use on Linkedin. The same
goes for the header. You can create a decent header from Canva,
Figma and other image editors.

(You can find free resources for Twitter headers - click here)

When you engage with others, they will come to your profile and
the first 10 seconds are going to be very important, that’s when
the visitors will make an impression on you. Here’s how they
will go about reading your profile:

Step 1: Check Profile Picture

Step 2: Check your bio and link
Step 3: Check your header
Step 4: Scroll your feed

So if you are someone interesting, who is putting up valuable

things on Twitter, most likely you will get a follow from the
person. Even if they don’t do it, it’s fine. That doesn’t mean
that you won’t be engaging with the person.

Remember, I told you before you have to keep adding value ie

make contributions through comments, likes, RTs. Don’t just
lurk.

Some profiles for inspiration:

18
12

Help, Help, Help

T
his is the last point and it’s the secret sauce behind a
successful career and life.

Whenever you get the chance to help anyone no matter

what their skin color, religion, caste or background is, help them.

You will not believe in what ways you are going to get rewarded
for that and who can take you where.

I have met people who have helped me get high-paying clients

just because one day I helped them with something. Similarly,
there are so many surprising things that have happened to me
that I never imagined.

Why is it a success secret? Because it’s people who will give you
opportunities, it’s people who will give you money, it’s people
who will become your partner.

And, if you are helping people, you can’t imagine rewarding

19

factors.

Just be open and help people whenever you get the chance. If no
one, I will be really thankful to you.
