LITERATURE WITH UNIVERSAL

MESSAGES

World literature is used to refer to the total of the world's national literature and the
circulation of works into the wider world beyond their country of origin. In the past, it
primarily referred to the masterpieces of Western European literature; however, world
literature today is increasingly seen in an international context. Now, readers have access to a
wide range of global works in various translations.
Many scholars assert that what makes a work considered world literature is its circulation
beyond its country of origin.
Renaissance in Indian literature includes several significant creative works of renowned
authors. Indian literature experienced a new beginning with the Hindu Renaissance in the
beginning of mid 19th century. Mostly centred on the Bengal province, eminent authors like
Rabindranath Tagore, Sarat Chandra Chatterjee and Bankim Chandra Chatterjee contributed
significantly in the renaissance in Indian literature by establishing a literary genre of the
nation, no more the borrowed tongue. Renaissance is basically considered as an inspiration
from the past and planning to rebuild the future.

1. Excerpts from world literature with universal message

From a stunning first sentence to a perfect string of dialogue, there are certain parts of
books that feel particularly memorable and whether they make us laugh, cry or simply
reflect, these quotable lines have a habit of sticking with us long after we turn the
final page.

 There is some good in this world, and it's worth fighting for.”
― J.R.R. Tolkien
 It is only with the heart that one can see rightly; what is essential is invisible to the
eye.”

2. Writings of Poets- Kabir

Bhakti Movement which began in 13th century was about personal devotion to god.
The movement inspired many poets like Meera, Tyagraj as well as Kabir. Kabirdas
was a disciple of Ramananda and was raised by a Muslim Weaver. He stood for doing
away with all the unnecessary customs and rituals in both religions and bringing
union between these religions.
Kabir shed light on the importance of following the path of equality and harmony.
Kabir had a clear view and approach towards social equality. He created awareness to
end discrimination in society. One of the most well-known teachings of Kabir was to
stop finding satisfaction and compliance in the external world, he taught that divinity
lies within oneself. The pandemic has allowed us to realise the significance of
affection, relationships, and health. It has given us the opportunity to recess from our
industries lives and plunge into introspection.

Another vital teaching is related to judgement. Individuals have an intrinsic tendency

to judge people and spread rumours but what they fail to understand is the fact that we
can never know what a person is going through in their life.

 Many have died; you also will die. The drum of death is being beaten. The world has
fallen in love with a dream. Only sayings of the wise will remain.”
― Kabir
 “All know that the drop merges into the ocean, but few know that the ocean merges
into the drop.”
― Kabir
