Arc Sentinel
Sentinel allows users to monitor several active recordings on a single computer. Sentinel displays video, events,
Synopsis trends, and EEG data. Notifications can be configured for patient events, Synopsis events, and Persyst
events. Video cameras can also be controlled within Sentinel software. Using a computer that meets the
recommended specifications for Arc software, Video and EEG data for up to 4 active recordings can be
monitored via Sentinel. When only video data is displayed, 10 or more active recordings can be monitored via
Sentinel.

CadLink Server
CadLink server is a centralized patient and data management system that provides support for synchronization
and data transferring between client systems for Cadwell applications. It uses a proprietary encrypted database
system running an SQLite engine internally to the client and can run SQLite or MS SQL on the server. The same
CadLink server can support multiple Cadwell application suites, including Arc, Cascade Surgical Studio and
Sierra Summit.

Refer to the CadLink System Configuration Document (PN: 369044-624) for additional information.

Arc Data File Sizes

All the file sizes specified are approximations. Compression algorithms can vary the size of EEG and video data
based on the data being stored.

Importance of good network speed:

An Arc system using the CadLink Server can be successfully configured in a multi-hospital setting. It is
important that your configuration suits your networking infrastructure. The important connection is the
network from the system reading the data and the CadLink Server. The connection between the CadLink Server
and the data storage location is also very important. Below is a bandwidth profile which provides an overview
of the network speed required to accomplish tasks efficiently within the Arc application. Cadwell recommends
a gigabit connection where available.

Arc System Configuration 100870-623 Rev. 05
March 2021

Arc Network Bandwidth Profile

Average Downstream Average Upstream
Data Transfer Data Transfer

Record EEG data 233 kbps 433 kbps

Record EEG data with video 316 kbps 1.67 Mbps

Downloading Ambulatory EEG 318 kbps 9 Mbps

Downloading Ambulatory EEG with Video 435 kbps 53 Mbps

Review EEG data with video paging at 28 pages/ sec 57 Mbps 325 kbps

Review EEG data with no video paging at 28 pages/ sec 25 Mbps 180 kbps

When bandwidth limits have been met, paging speed will be limited based on traffic. At paging speeds lower
than 28 pages/ sec, the downstream and upstream data transfer will be lower.

Outside Hospital Connections

There are a few ways to remote in and view recorded data from outside the hospital network. The preferred
method is via a Citrix, VMware Horizon, or RDSH portal. Arc can be published with these tools and work well in
those environments. The outside computer can read the data as if it were on the network inside the hospital.

Using a Citrix Server or similar solution

Cadwell has many customers using Citrix XenApp, Microsoft Remote Desktop Session Host (RDSH), and
VMWare Horizon. Though our software can be configured with any of these tools, you may need to
contact the provider of your solution if direct support and assistance is required.

Arc can run in a virtual environment. The following are the minimum and recommended specs to run
Arc in a virtual environment:

Arc – Citrix Hardware Minimum Specifications

Operating System Windows Server Server 2012 R2, Server 2016, or Server 2019
Processor 4 cores at a speed of at least 2.6GHz
Hard Disk Drive 120GB*
Memory (RAM) 8GB
This spec will support a single review session at ~7 pages per second.

Arc – Citrix Hardware Recommended Specifications

Operating System Windows 10
Processor 8 cores at a speed of at least 2.6GHz
Hard Disk Drive 120GB*
Memory (RAM) 8GB
Graphics (optional) Discrete graphics processor with at least 256MB of RAM per session
Without a GPU, a Win 10 VDI can be expected to get 10-13 pages per second.
If higher paging speeds are needed, a GPU will be required.

*Note: It is reasonable to assign 80 GB to the C drive. As long as this partition is dynamic and can be added to at
a later time to accommodate for growth.

Please note our comments below regarding Citrix:

• Cadwell Reading software can be published on the Citrix Server.
• The patient data is stored on the CadLink Server. In most cases the patient data is not stored
on the Citrix server. The Citrix server should have a good network connection to the CadLink
Server.
• Anyone with the proper Citrix and Cadwell access rights can access the Citrix server and
operate the Arc Review software from the remote PC.
• It is recommended to use the Citrix Long Term Service Release (LTSR) versions for both
XenApp/VirtualApps (e.g. 7.15) and Receiver (e.g. 4.9).

Firewall Configuration
Firewalls must be configured or turned off so as not to interrupt data collection. Arc and CadLink client utilize the
following ports:
• IP Camera communication: HTTP 80, NOTE: this can be configured as a direct connection to the recording PC utilizing
port 80 on the computer NIC card.
• Arc workstation outbound to IP Camera: TCP/ UDP 554
• Arc workstation inbound from IP Camera: UDP 13152 – 13155
• Arc Remote Control: TCP 4899
• CadLink client outbound to CadLink server: TCP 62002 (configurable)
• CadLink client bi-directional between clients for Direct Connect: TCP 62003 (configurable)
The Arc.exe application should be allowed through the firewall.
Additionally, Cadwell uses a licensing server to license its software. The following IP and port should be open on
the firewall to avoid license activation difficulties:
• licensing.cadwellservices.com:33334

Antivirus Software and Disk Encryption Software Applications

Cadwell encourages all customers to take necessary precautions to protect computer systems from malicious
programs. We also want you to protect the privacy of your patient data. Though Cadwell has configured Arc
software with multiple AV and disk encryption applications, we cannot verify compatibility with all applications
available in the marketplace.

8
Arc System Configuration 100870-623 Rev. 05
March 2021

Important note: Any additional software installed on an Arc platform could result in performance problems if it
is using an excessive amount of system resources, including memory, CPU and disk access.

1. Scheduled antivirus scans should not happen during a recording/data collection.

2. Exclude the following folders from scans, including their subfolders. If folder exclusion is
disallowed by policy, a complete list of file extension is listed in Appendix C.
a. C:\Program Files\Cadwell\Arc
b. C:\ProgramData\Cadwell
c. CadLink’s StreamingData folder if changed from default
d. CadLink’s Databases folder if changed from default
e. CadLink’s data folder, if changed from default
3. After loading any AV application or disk encryption, do the following:
a. Attempt to open a data file, verify the file opens correctly
b. Archive a file through the Record Management panel under the Administration
tab, verify it will archive correctly
c. If the system is a data collection system, start a recording, verify no conflicts
appear
d. Generate a report and confirm that the length of time to generate is unchanged.
4. Verify that encryption software does not adversely delay file access and overall Arc
performance. Verify that Arc records can be opened promptly and paging speed is
adequate after installing encryption or AV software.
5. Microsoft Word is utilized during report generation. Word creates a .tmp file while
generating the reports, if this file is scanned during report generation, that can increase
report generation times.

Security Permission Requirements

Domain Users
By default, “Domain Users” are added to a machine’s “Users” group when that machine is added to a domain.
Because of this, any “Domain User” should be able to run the Arc software without additional permission
changes.

CadLink Client
The permissions on a local CadLink client system are by default set up upon install. We configure the paths
provided in the installer to contain the local “Users” group with rights to read, write, and modify. Under normal
situations this should cover the service and logged in user’s rights to access these locations.
Security settings required on the specified path (defaults shown) for the CadLink Client service:
If the CadLink Client Service is running under the “LocalSystem” account, no permission changes are required.

If the CadLink Client Service is running under any other user account, that user needs read/write access to the
following folders:
C:\ProgramData\Cadwell\
C:\ProgramData\Cadwell\CadLinkClientService\Data
C:\ProgramData\Cadwell\CadLinkClientService\Databases
C:\ProgramData\Cadwell\CadLinkClientService\StreamingData
C:\ProgramData\Cadwell\CadLinkClientService\UpdateUtils
C:\ProgramData\Cadwell\CadLinkClientService\ExternalData

Arc Application
Users that run the Arc application need read access to the following folders:
C:\ProgramData\Cadwell\

9
Arc System Configuration 100870-623 Rev. 05
March 2021

C:\ProgramData\Cadwell\CadLinkClientService\StreamingData
C:\ProgramData\Cadwell\CadLinkClientService\UpdateUtils

Users that run the Arc application need read/write access to the following folders:
C:\ProgramData\Cadwell\CadLinkClientService\ExternalData
C:\ProgramData\Cadwell\Arc\SampleMontage
C:\ProgramData\Cadwell\Arc\IpCameraConfig

If Persyst data is being collected, the external data share must be specified. Arc application users and the account
under which the CadLink Server Service is running need read/write/modify access to that share. On the client
systems, the external data folder must be shared out as: CadLinkExternalData

CadLink Server
Refer to CadLink System Configuration Document (PN: 369044-624) for additional Server information.
