Summary: A long way home

A New Life
Saroo is going to start his new journey in Australia with his new parents.
They were eagerly waiting for Saroo in the airport on 25 th September 1987.
Saroo landed in Melbourne along with his friend Asra. He met with Mr. and
Mrs. Brierleys. They couldn’t communicate with each other because he
can’t speak English. But the bonding with his new parents since the
beginning of the day made him feel safe. When he reached his new home,
he was so astonished by watching their big house like a palace with huge
bedrooms, a bathroom with a big bath, and a big tv, while back in India he
never imagined this. He was so amazed to see that the kitchen was filled
with foods. He felt so lucky to be a part of this family. Gradually, his mum
and dad were spending time with him. They brought boxes full of picture
books, toys, warm cozy clothes to make him happy. Also, they took him for
outings about every week, helped him improving swimming skills, take him
to play golf, camp, hike, and sail. Therefore, Saroo finds the natural world
peaceful, as he’d never experienced anything like it in India. Although, he
started his school and started to love it and his teachers. But all inside he
was feeling loneliness and missing his sister. After that his parents adopted
another child who was also from India named Mantosh. He also had
troubled background and experienced some hardships in his back home.
But their mum and dad always tried to help them to heal those wounds with
their love and care. They took trips during school holidays, go for outing,
played together. Eventually, their parents begin planning a family trip to
India. Both Saroo and Mantosh are initially excited, but soon begin to feel
anxious. They begin experiencing anxiety about things they thought they’d
put behind them already, and the idea becomes more and more upsetting.
Finally, they cancel the trip.
