How To Compute The Table of Specification

To compute a table of specification (TOS): 1. Determine the percentage of questions for each level (e.g. 30% for process, 40% for understanding) and the total percentage (e.g. 70%). 2. Use formulas to calculate the number of questions for each level by dividing the percentage by the total percentage and multiplying by the total number of items (e.g. for 10 items, 30%/70% x 10 = 4 process questions). 3. Round numbers to determine the final count of questions for each level (e.g. 5.71 understanding questions rounds to 6 questions).

HOW TO COMPUTE THE TABLE OF SPECIFICATION (TOS)

2 Levels of Question
1.Process -------------------------- 30 %
2.Understanding -------------------------- 40 %
TOTAL ------------------------------------------ 70 %
SOLVING PROCESS LEVEL:
Formula: (Percentage of process) ÷ (total percentage) × (total number of items) = number of process question

Example:

30% ÷ 70% × 10 = 4.28 = 4 questions

30% ÷ 70% × 15 =

30% ÷ 70% × 15 = 6.43 = 6 questions

SOLVING UNDERSTANDING LEVEL:
Formula: (Percentage of understanding) ÷ (total percentage) × (total number of items) = number of understanding question

Example:

40% ÷ 70% × 10 = 5.71 = 6 questions

40% ÷ 70% × 15 =

40% ÷ 70% × 15 = 8.57 = 9 questions
