Unit 2 Tenses – Future (pages 24 and 25)

The answers are as follows:

1 was going to 4 will
2 Present Simple (starts, begins, etc.) 5 is going to be
3 am going to 6 Present Simple (leaves, departs, arrives, etc.)

Exercise 18 (groups)
Put students into groups of three or four. Give one copy of the Worksheet to each group.
• Ask one student in the class to look at the first sentence and decide if it is correct
or incorrect (students should put a tick in box 2 or box 3 as they think appropriate).
• Ask the student how sure he or she is, from 1% to 100%. Put their answer into
pounds in the fourth box, e.g. 80% = £80.
• Tell the student if he/she was right or wrong. (The right answer is that the sentence
is incorrect.) If the student was wrong, put their money into box 5 as a negative
amount (e.g.-£80).
• If the student was right, ask him/her to correct the sentence (The correct answer is:
Please stop making so much noise or I will report you to the supervisor). If they do
so correctly, put their money from box 4 into box 5 (e.g. +£80). If the student knew
it was an incorrect sentence, but couldn’t correct it, put half of their money in box
5 (e.g. +£80 +£40).
• Ask students to work together to spend money on the sentences. Remind them that
if they think a sentence is incorrect, they need to correct it on the worksheet.
• When groups have finished they should give their worksheet to another group.
Go through the answers on the board with the whole class and get groups to
correct the worksheet they have. At the end, find out which group made the most
money and which made the least.
