purpose: People credited with this unit standard are able to: describe
methods for attaching toe puffs; set up equipment; and
attach toe puffs to specified industry performance and
company quality standards. This unit standard is for those
working in the footwear trade as production operatives.

entry information: Open.

accreditation option: Evaluation of documentation by NZQA and industry.

moderation option: A centrally established and directed national moderation


system has been set up by the Apparel and Textile Industry
Training Organisation.

special notes: Specified industry performance is 55% BSI performance or


equivalent. BSI Performance is the British Standards
Institute internationally recognised performance system
(BS3138) where 100% is the standard expected from a
competent fully qualified performer using the correct
methods and taking the allowed rest, working briskly and as
though on an incentive. Other comparable rating or
performance systems such as the 60/80 system are
acceptable, with the appropriate performance adjustment.

Company safety requirements conform to the Health and


Safety in Employment Act 1992.

Range: pre-cemented fabric based thermoplastic, hot melt extruded,


extruded film.

1.3 Reasons for attaching toe puffs are explained.

Range: shape retention, comfort, appearance, strength.

1.4 Equipment is set up and controls are adjusted to meet product specifications
and manufacturer's recommendations.

Range: time dwell, temperature, hot melt volume, pressure.
