Title: “EFFECTIVE CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT IN LABORATORY SETTING IN TEACHING

MEDICAL LABORATORY SCIENCE’

INTRODUCTION

Laboratory teaching is one of the most challenging ways in teaching students. It is where
the student learns all the skills and practices that is being done in their course of field. Some
Laboratory classroom don’t have enough ways and means to effectively inculcate these skills to
students. Medical laboratory science is a course that requires skills for the students to learn.
Most Medical Laboratory science graduates do not possess these skills like phlebotomy when
they graduate and enter the field. Phlebotomy is one of the basic skills that a Medtech should
possess as this is the skill that is needed to collect blood. Phlebotomy is the procedure in which
a needle is used to take blood from a vein, usually for laboratory testing. A medtech that does
possess the proper skill in blood collection will be a liability in their workplace. In this study we
will look for effective ways so that Medtech students can learn more effectively phlebotomy
skills. There are different classroom management in teaching laboratory skills specially to
Medtech students.

OBJECTIVES

§ This study aims to determine the most effective ways in teaching Phlebotomy in the
laboratory in Medical Laboratory Science
§ Determine how students can learn more and acquire skills while in the laboratory

SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

§ The study aims to develop ways on how to help teachers be more effective in teaching
students in Medical Laboratory Science. There are many skills that needs to be develop
in being a good Medical technologist and learning them in the laboratory is one of the
ways for them to acquire them.
§ The study aims that Medical Laboratory students will acquire full knowledge in
developing this skills while they are in the laboratory

RESEARCH DESIGN

This study will use a case study design. The variable in this study are the ways that can
be use by a teacher in the laboratory to effectively teach required skills to students. The study
will use the ideas of teachers that are teaching in laboratory and also the side of the students.
The data will be collected using questionnaires. The study will collect data from 5 teachers and
5 Medical Laboratory science students.
Research questions:
1. What are the criteria of a good laboratory teacher?
2. What are the effective ways that a teacher can do in teaching in the laboratory?
3. What are the effective ways that a student can learn better in the laboratory?
