Genre Remediation: Interview to Instagram

As part of my remediation of any genre within my multigenre essay, I knew I wanted to

adapt one of my sections into a more accessible public sphere. I was inspired by the Instagram

account @lured_by_burger_records and the impact the women who started the account had upon

this culture. By sharing the stories of individuals who were survivors of abuse and grooming at

the hands of men surrounding Burger Records, this account was able to contribute to the shutting

down of this label while being an incredible catalyst for a much needed conversation. I decided

to take this idea of sharing experiences and starting conversations online by crafting (fake)

Instagram posts from a hypothetical account sharing pieces of conversations with real individuals

about safety in the music scene. I used my interview genre from my multigenre essay to function

as the stories highlighted in each post. I designed a graphic for each post that projects the

quotations similarly to the way the @lured_by_burger_records would focus on text images and

infographics. I based the profile name off of the tagline in the poster I made, also included in my

multigenre essay. I mentioned in my class presentation how important accessibility is to me,

especially regarding topics as urgent as the one my project is based on. Online platforms can be

great, useful tools in order to educate others, participate in discourse, and contribute to a wave of

change. The Instagram account I took inspiration from is living proof of this.
