1. The standards used in pumps and provided description (example ANSI pumps).

Based on
the standards, what specific pump is suitable for the system (provide 1 catalog)

Progressive Cavity pump is a type of positive displacement pump, it tranfers fluids

through the pump by a sequence of small cavities which creates a propertional volumetric
flow rate to rotation rate of the rotor. These pumps are used in wastewater treatment as it
aids to breakdown material in wastewater.

2.The required piping material that can handle the system. Provide the standards or basis of this
(can be from the journal).
Standards differ in different countries and locations, such as in Australia, the GBRA or
Guadalupe-Blanco River Authority have different criteria for materials used in piping in
wastewater treatment such as manufacturing company, sizing, and design.
The list below is the general requirements of GBRA in wastewater treatment plants including the
materials used in piping and pumps for the facility

3. The conditions of the system. (Pressure, Temperature, pump capacity (Q), viscosity of the
fluid, velocity of the fluid). *Hint: some catalogs provide the design conditions.

4. What are the advantages, disadvantages and application of the suitable pump
The advantages of a Progressive Cavity Pump in wastewater treatment is that it is specifically
designed to transport abrasive and viscous wastewater, however the main disadvantage of a
progressive cavity pump is that these pumps fail when there is less wastewater in its system.
Therefore, these pumps are applicable to high volume wastewater areas such as cities and
environmental controlled farms.
5. Pump Maintenance
The maintenance of Progressive Cavity Pumps are relatively simple. The following are the
different maintenance required for the pump:
Dosing and metering; since these pumps are designed to prevent pulsation, highly viscous fluids,
abrasive fluids, and shear sensitive fluids are recommended to maintain a progressive cavity
pump.
