To begin with, Rizal’s life has been an inspiration to many Filipino people during

the colonization of the Spaniards, he fought hard for the liberation of our country, the
Philippines. Jose Rizal’s educational attainment is one of the many amazing things about
him. His first teacher was his mother, she guided him to read and write poetry. Jose Rizal
was exposed to education at a young age; hence, it was instilled in him the significance
of education. Later, he learned Spanish and Latin with the help of his tutors. This stage
in Rizal’s life motivated him to pursue his studies. He gained knowledge and abilities in
schools he went to like writing novels and articles. Thru his writings, he has awoken the
sleeping spirit of nationalism of the Filipino people. On February 21, 1887, he finished
writing Noli me Tangere in Berlin, Germany, and El Filibusterismo on April 22, 1890, in
Belgium which is a sequel to Noli me Tangere. These are just two of the novels he wrote
that revealed the abuses Filipinos experienced by the Spaniards. Jose Rizal’s courage
and bravery pushed him to fight for the freedom of our country, despite the danger it
brought him.

Furthermore, on December 3, 1896, he was charged with treason, sedition, and

forming illegal societies, the prosecution argued that he was responsible for the deeds of
those who read his writings. He was incarcerated but that did not stop him from doing
what he can to make the Filipino people realize the need to revolt to gain back our
freedom. On December 27, 1896, he was condemned to death and was killed on
December 30 the same year in Luneta, Manila at 7:03 AM and was buried in a secret
grave in Paco Manila Cemetery. His death encouraged many to start fighting for our
liberation.

In conclusion, there are various events in the life of Rizal that molded him to
become a national hero, he did his best throughout his life to be of help in gaining freedom
for the country and the people. He showed his love for the Philippines thru his novels,
essays, and articles instead of thru the utilization of force or aggression. Through his
works, Rizal was able to revolutionize the way that Filipinos citizen thought. That is a
different reason why Jose Rizal is the national hero of the Philippines, even without
making provocative speeches or bold declarations, he was able to awaken the people’s
inner spirit.

In the end, his writing works were exchanged for his life. Even Jose Rizal knew
that while Spaniards could kill his mortal body, the idea of independence and freedom
was forever in the minds of the people of the Philippines. It was a notion that would be in
the minds of every man. The death of Rizal would only be in the real world but in spirit,
he was in every Filipino's heart. The ideals that Jose Rizal fought for are still alive in
today's time. There are many challenges and problems facing the Filipinos but the
reasons why Jose Rizal is the national hero of the Philippines persists to inspire the
Filipinos to march on and stand on their own.
