4-DAY BOOK WRITING CHALLENGE

Day 3 | Assignment

Weekly Writing
Plan
Creating any sort of habit requires time and attention. But it doesn’t have to be hard, and it can even be fun! When you
set yourself small, reachable goals that you can repeat over time, you will be surprised how achievable a big dream (like
a book!) becomes. This worksheet is intended to help you set the course toward creating small, positive writing habits
by setting simple commitments you can actually keep.

EXERCISE: CREATE YOUR WRITING PLAN

Your writing plan asks you to choose a time each day of the week to commit to writing.

Start by taking an honest look at your weekly calendar. Review the commitments you already have and see
where you have openings available for working on your book dream. No time slot is too small, as long as you
stick to it!

Now, create your plan for the week, using the chart below. Be sure to check your calendar for time slots that will
actually work!

EXAMPLE:

DAY OF THE WEEK COMMITMENT TIME SLOT ACTIVITY

(# minutes)
Monday 15 minutes 6:00am Draft story about
(kids still asleep) Sue’s car
accident

Now, it’s your turn! Fill out your own book time chart on the next page. Each week, create a new chart based on
your actual schedule. Then, print it out and put it somewhere you will see it every day: On the fridge, next to
your computer, in your car—wherever you know you won’t be able to miss it.
