Write a reaction paper about the video that you have watched. (At least 150 words)
The video talks about the Rizal law (Republic Act 1425) signed by former
President Ramon Magsaysay. The law aims to establish awareness among
students on how the works of our national hero shaped the history of the
Philippines. The authors of the law former, senator Claro, Mayo Recto, and the
late president Paciano Laurel pursue to instill patriotism and nationalism.
However, the church opposed passing the law because the novels of Rizal (Noli
me Tangere and Elfilibusterismo), which are taught at schools, criticized the friars
and the church. Despite all the criticism, Rizal's works are still taught in schools
up until now.
For me, it is significant to have this law in our Philippine constitution.
Everyone needs to be educated about the sacrifices, works, and history of our
heroes who offered their lives for the country's independence. It's our way of
showing gratitude to our heroes. Besides, it's always fun to read books about
history. We even gossip about our past.
