PEACE EDUCATION ACTIVITY

Learning Activities

1. Differentiate intrapersonal peace from interpersonal peace?

- Intrapersonal peace is peace within oneself, Hanh (2003). It is about
accepting your insecurities, failures, imperfections, and ego. It's about
respecting and loving yourself more than anyone could. It helps you
welcome the people around you, opens your vision to the wonders of
people and the world. On the other hand, interpersonal peace is 'very much
like social peace,' Jessica Park (2014). It is a sense of peace between a
person and another person and eventually the whole nation. It resolves
conflicts between a family, friendships, team, tribe, clan, community,
country, and the world. It prevents violence and dispute to promote world
peace.

2. Why do you think interpersonal peace is important?

- Interpersonal peace is fundamental to creating and promoting order
between the people and the world. Without this, the world will be in chaos.
Lives will be in danger because of fights within families and war between
the nations. Interpersonal peace resolves conflicts and misunderstandings.
It encourages unity, acceptance, camaraderie, nationalism, and patriotism.

3. Give at least one peacemaking and peacekeeping initiative that would help
maintain peace in the Philippine society.
a. One of the peacekeeping initiatives that comes to my mind is the
deployment of the Philippine Arm forces to the areas where rebels harm
the civilians. For peacemaking, I think about establishing a law that will
benefit the country, the civilians, and the rebels to prevent chaos and
war.

4. Give at least one peace building initiative which would help in the maintenance of
peace in the Philippine society.
a. One of the peace building initiatives that will benefit the Philippine
society is a ceasefire agreement. The agreement should be done
together with the leader of the rebels, commander in chief of the army,
and the Philippine president. By doing this, civilian lives will be safe,
and no one from each party will sacrifice their life.

Enrichment
Tell a short success story of peacekeeping and/or peace building endeavor in your
community. You may approach and interview someone (peace advocate, public official,
educator, and religious leader, non-government organizations (NGOs), who has
personal experience of success story of maintaining peace.
In my community, we had a neighbor that violated parking in the streets.
They had huge vehicles that blocked almost the whole road. We cannot get
through our house while riding a tricycle because the space is too narrow. My
family asked our neighbor numerous times to consider the people crossing the
street and move their vehicles on the right parking lot. However, they wouldn't
listen. So, my father filed a complaint in our Barangay council. The Barangay
captain decided to talk to our neighbor and initiate a no parking rule in our
streets.
