Summer Internship Report

Preparation of Biofuel

M.Harshavardhan Naik

1st June 2022

Under the guidance of DR. Shweta Jatav

Present Aim:- Preparation of catalyst

20g support &3 wt% of loading

Here we are going to prepare our Catalyst in 20g 𝐴𝑙2𝑂3

The beginning of Experiment we need to wash all the beakers & all other
equipment, In a watch glass we need to weight a watch glass in a weighing
machine after that by taking 100 grams of aluminum nitrate in a watch glass
transfer that aluminum nitrate in a beaker then we need to take Deionised water (DI
water) and need to dissolve the aluminum nitrate [𝐴𝐿(𝑁𝑂3)3]crystal in di water until
it dissolves well.

After that we need to add drop by drop ammonia solution[𝑁𝐻4𝑂𝐻] into an

aluminum nitrate beaker we need to mix the solution with stirrer Until the solution
turns into a Paste form after that we need to cover the beaker with aluminum foil
paper that we need to keep in a safe place until 24 hours After, the 24 hours we
need to observe our sample. It turned the sample into a white paste form.

𝐴𝐿(𝑁𝑂3)3 + 𝑁𝐻4𝑂 −−−−> 𝐴𝐿(𝑂𝐻)3 + 𝑁𝐻4𝑂3

Now by the vacuum filter we need to wash our sample by adding D-I water in it,
then we need to collect all our filtered water and also the sample paste which is
remaining outside of the filter we need to collect in a beaker by collecting after
washing the sample we can lose the ammonium nitrate

All amount of our sample we need to cover with Aluminum foil paper and we need
to make holes on the Aluminum foil paper that we need to keep it on a lab oven at
0
110 𝐶 for 12 hours After that we need to observe our sample that will turn into
crystal form. Weight of our sample after it turns into crystal form 22.00 g

Then our sample was turned into aluminium hydroxide(𝐴𝐿(𝑂𝐻)3 )

After that we need to Grinde our sample in a fine particle with the help of mortar
and pestle. It was made from ceramic.

Then we need to take our sample in half a side and need to do calcination for3hrs at
600°C

2𝐴𝐿(𝑂𝐻)3 −−−−> 𝐴𝐿2𝑂3 + 3𝐻2𝑂

After calcination‌, it turned our sample into Aluminium oxide (𝐴𝐿2𝑂3) & weight is
20.3g

After this, we need to take Nickel nitrate and molybdenum

Nickel(II) nitrate as 0.763g, Molybdenum as 1.993g in a different beaker and dissolve

with DI water then we need to add our (𝐴𝐿2𝑂3) and keep on a magnetic stirrer for
continuous 3-4hrs after that keep in a lab oven at 110°C for 12hrs, it will be turned
into a fine powder and now we need to keep again in the calcination for 3-4 hrs at
600°C

The second half of 𝐴𝐿(𝑂𝐻) ) weight was 9.988g actually 0.23 g was used for trail. Here

we made again two halfs of 𝐴𝐿(𝑂𝐻)3 )and dissolving in the Dimethyl sulphoxide
specially dried in those beakers and in a one beaker we need to add nickel nitrate
(0.763g) & in another beaker Molybdenum ( 1.993g) and tgen keep covering by

aluminum foil then keep on magnetic stirrer by 3hrs . Then by using lab oven we
need to place our sample in the oven until it forms liquid to solid form.
