1. French Montana (Hip hop Artist)

Karim Kharbouch, known by his stage name French Montana, is an


American rapper born in Morocco. He is the founder and CEO of Cocaine
City Records. In 2012, he signed a joint venture recording deal with
Maybach Music Group and Bad Boy Records. Montana is known for his
frequent collaborations with Max B, and more recently with Rick Ross
along with his group Coke Boys which includes rappers Chinx Drugz,
Cheeze, and Flip. His debut album Excuse My French was released on May
21, 2013.
2. Ibn Battuta (Geographer) 

Ibn Baṭūṭah, or simply Ibn Battuta, was a Moroccan explorer of Berber


descent. He is known for his extensive travels, accounts of which were
published in the Rihla. Over a period of thirty years, Ibn Battuta visited
most of the known Islamic world as well as many non-Muslim lands. His
journeys included trips to North Africa, the Horn of Africa, West Africa
and Eastern Europe in the West, and to the Middle East, South Asia,
Central Asia, Southeast Asia and China in the East, a distance surpassing
threefold his near-contemporary Marco Polo. Ibn Battuta is considered to
be among the great travellers of all time.

3. Gad Elmaleh (Comedian) 

Gad Elmaleh is a Moroccan and French stand-up comedian and actor. His
latest show is called Sans Tambour. He has starred in several feature films,
including Coco, Hors de prix, La Doublure and Midnight in Paris.

4. Mohammed VI of Morocco (Monarch) 


Mohammed VI is the current King of Morocco. He acceded to the throne
on 23 July 1999 upon the death of his father, King Hassan II. His birthday
is a public holiday.

5. Abdelilah Benkirane (Politician)


 
Abdelilah Benkirane is a Moroccan politician who has been Prime Minister
of Morocco since 2011. He is also leader of the Justice and Development
Party. Having won a plurality of seats in the November 2011 parliamentary
election, his party formed a coalition with three parties that had been part
of previous governments, and he was appointed as Prime Minister on 29
November 2011. During the 1970s, Benkirane was a leftist political
activist. He has represented Salé in the Moroccan parliament since 14
November 1997. He was elected leader of the Justice and Development
Party in July 2008, taking over from Saadeddine Othmani. Benkirane's
politics are democratic and Islamist. In a 2011 interview he said: "If I get
into government, it won't be so I can tell young women how many
centimeters of skirt they should wear to cover their legs. That's none of my
business. It is not possible, in any case, for anyone to threaten the cause of
civil liberties in Morocco". However, he has in the past described
secularism as "a dangerous concept for Morocco", and in 2010 he
campaigned, unsuccessfully, to ban a performance in Rabat by Elton John
because it "promoted homosexuality".

6. Tahar Ben Jelloun (Novelist) 

Tahar ben Jelloun is a Moroccan writer. The entirety of his work is written
in French, although his first language is Arabic. He became known for his
novel "L’Enfant de Sable”. Today he lives in Paris and continues to write.

7. Michel Qissi (Actor) 

Michel Qissi is a Moroccan-American actor, perhaps best known for his


role as Tong Po in the 1989 martial arts film Kickboxe.

8. Karim Alami (Tennis Player)


 
Karim Alami is a tennis player from Morocco, who turned professional in
1990. He represented his native country as a qualifier at the 1992 Summer
Olympics in Barcelona, where he was defeated in the first round by
Switzerland's eventual winner Marc Rosset. The right-hander won two
career titles in singles, both in 1996. He reached his highest singles ATP-
ranking on February 21, 2000, when he became World No. 25. Very
impressively, he defeated Pete Sampras in the first round of the 1994 Doha
tournament, a year in which Sampras dominated the tour. He is now the
Tournament Director of the Qatar ExxonMobil Open in Doha, Qatar. He
also works as a tennis commentator for the most popular Arabic sports
channel Al Jazeera Sports

9. Dounia Batma (Arab Artist) 


Dounia Batma is a Moroccan singer who rose to popularity around the
world as the runner-up of the first season of Arab Idol on MBC. She lost
the title against Egyptian contestant Carmen Suleiman. But despite her loss,
she won the hearts of millions of people throughout the Arab world.
10. Hindi Zahra (Blues Artist) 
Hindi Zahra is a Franco-Moroccan singer. When coming up with a stage
name, she simply inverted her birth name. Her songs are mostly in English
but some lyrics as in the song Imik Si Mik are in the Berber languages.
