Name of student Abdulelah Albukhari , MS-HCI Student

Faculty advisor: Dr. Brenda Boone
Project purpose:
To implement a new feature in the inpatient GetWell system menu, which allows the patient to
connect to the Virtual Health Resource Center (VHRC) to increase patients’ awareness of the
digital health education provided by the VHRC.
Background:
The VHRC in the Veteran’s Hospital VA in San Diego educates veterans on how to use virtual
tools, which can help veterans who struggle with using the available digital health features.
Many veterans’ patients have difficulty in using digital health tools. The VHRC works to reach
them and help them with this matter.
The Get-Well Network (GWN) system fully equips the inpatient rooms. The system empowers
veterans to self-manage education and equips staff with the insights needed to deliver excellent
service and higher quality care. GWN aims to improve patient satisfaction and provide a more
robust patient entertainment system
Project approach:
 design of GetWell Network menu changes
 tracking project deliverables
 Help the VHRC team with understanding the digital health literacy needs for the
Veterans.
 Education to Nursing staff
Outcomes/metric categories compared:
The project process depends on metric categories compared to implementing the project in one
in-patient unit; the team will monitor the progress in the first unit. Then, if it succeeds, it will
implement in all the in-patients in the hospital.
Discussion:
Many veterans need guidance, support, training, and help regarding virtual care tools. Studies
have shown that digital health services have the potential to enhance of self-management of
some chronic conditions. Improving the knowledge of digital health services may improve
patient outcomes.
Next steps/opportunities:
The next step of this implementation is to be implemented in all of the in-patient rooms in the

hospital and look for other tools within the GetWell network to promote digital health literacy.
