a. I could say that his fascination with gems and the theater, converge in the fact of being able
to look like someone important and with a lot of money, then both desires came together
and he found a way to indulge his pleasure in gems and look good in the theater in a less
expensive way.
8. To what, besides Madame Lantin's jewels, might the title of this story refer? Explain
a. It could refer to women who appear to have an expensive and luxurious life but in reality it
is not like that, that even living such a false life, they have a lot of value and not the one
they want to show to society

a. Madame Latin was in charge of the administration of the money and in the story it is clear
that she had Or kept a secret to have so much money and when her husband Monsieur
Latin died she did not know how to do it. she contracted some debts and led him to poverty

a. I noticed that he becomes more cocky and exaggerates about his wealth.

a. I think so, in the story it is mentioned that she related to many people around her, so I can
infer that she could have become fond of those things, due to the influence of her
environment.

a. I would say that between spouses there should be no secrets, so many problems can be
solved together. they give light of something undue, bad or incorrect.
13. If you had been in Monsieur Lantin's situation, what do you think you would have done with the

a. If I were in that position, I would still sell the gems, that would help me with my debts and
my financial problems, only maybe I would have controlled my ego, it is true that money
corrupts hearts, but I don't know, I think I would have acted accordingly a better way, back
then people used to be reasonable.

a. The irony is that his new wife was a very virtuous woman, but she still caused him a lot of
sadness and pain.

a. I consider that both were characters that despite their good qualities, had bad things, which
over time came to an outbreak. now with the character that I most empathize with is
Monsieur Lantin, since anyone can be influenced and do what he did, after what happened,
he felt some kind of love, and well, it did not go very well and he suffered the consequences
