What is the difference between MDs/DOs/NPs/PAs?

And, why aren’t all of our appointments with a

doctor? Why you do not have to see the physician always at SHINE?

At SHINE, we are fortunate to have physicians who work in an integrative, functional practice on a day to day
basis where we see routine Pediatric e are seeing the day to day concerns issues of pediatrics along with
integrative, complex needs while also having well trained advance providers like nurse practitioners and
physician assistants who are seeing patients independently.

At SHINE, It is an opinion but it is a valid one from years of experience. Collaboration and the meeting of
minds is always a more effective approach to the care of patients. From the most simplistic of concepts or
concerns to the most complex of medical conditions, when multiple minds can tackle an issue, there are more
perspectives on an issue.

There is a term Dr Naidoo says a lot, if you have to see me, that means something seriously wrong is going on
with your child. Dr Naidoo does not want to see the healthy child for a routine wellness visit because he knows
those children will be cared for with excellence from the other physicians and advanced providers that he has
trained at SHINE. Your child will be in great hands with any SHINE provider. You are coming to SHINE for our
philosophy on the care of children. You are coming for the SHINE STANDARD.

We have a sophisticated process of scheduling at SHINE where our front office team has been trained to
ensure patient needs are placed with the most effective providers at SHINE. There are some health issues
that any provider at SHINE from physician to advanced providers can see but there ma ybe some conditions
where a physician or particular advanced provider would be more effective to see.

We also have a tiered approach to patient medical conditions. For many patients born into the SHINE model or
who have started at a young age, our approach to medicine will allow for the most healthy child with fullness of
vitality in the senses, the soul, and hopefully a spirit that is open to a Creator in whatever faith your family
chooses. We also know, when that trajectory is not going in the right direction, and when to call on the
assistance of the most experienced providers at SHINE.

From speaking to providers who have joined SHINE, most practices do not have ways of proper
communication on patient’s needs and therefore, providers work in isolation. Here at SHINE, we have many
ways for providers to communicate with others in a collegial fashion. We also have systems in place that allow
our most senior providers to be in the know through KLARA and Healthfusion to stay connected with complex
patient needs.

There are many practices in the metroplex where advanced providers are moving into functional medicine and
while that is definitely opening up opportunities for the healthy child to experience a better way of care, there
are no physicians on staff or who are in any proximity of communication on patient healthcare needs. Many
collaborating physicians do not even have any experience with integrative, functional care. So the limitation of

your child’s care in those settings is a possibility when the condition becomes more complex due to just the
shear lack of numbers of hours of training in caring for a child for an advanced practitioner just out of schooling
versus a pediatrician just out of residency. So as a parent, when you state, I want to talk or communicate with
a physician or can you consult with an integrative physician on my child’s care, you will not be able to get that
care from those types of advanced provider practices.

We believe at SHINE that if you have advanced providers who are extremely competent and knowledgeable
about integrative medicine, those providers should have physicians that they can easily communicate with the
most challenging of healthcare needs of their patients.

At SHINE, our providers meet monthly for further education and collaboration on functional and alternative
modalities of care for our patients. We have very robust referral networks in the alternative and
complementary medicine arena and we have our own robust systems to cut down on referrals to other
specialists since we do a lot of functional labs for different organ systems as well as tons of conventional labs
in house.

We do a great job with phlebotomy, aka blood draws, and we have very competent medical assistants that are
great with lab draws on infants and children but more importantly, understanding the entire process of caring
for a child in an integrative way. At SHINE, we like to say we are “vampires” because we draw a lot of blood
and with that experience and knowing when to give certain local pain control with natural and conventional
therapies along with prescriptions and natural remedies to help relax the patient, we do a great job of blood
draw experiences. Every once in awhile, it is challenging but that is pediatrics and that is blood draws. Make
sure to thank them when things go well with blood draws. No matter how experienced a person is with blood
draws, there are many variables to success.

So when you choose SHINE, the physician collaboration is very supportive and involved in the process of
training providers working at SHINE while also being available to see the most challenging patients at SHINE.
We also have some of the most experienced advanced practitioners with many years of integrative experience
and conventional pediatric experience who provide pediatric care that is better than most pediatricians in the
area because of their vast knowledge base and experience.
