To whom it may concern,

I am eager to apply to your acclaimed new graduate residency program. I have obtained a
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) with an emphasis in Integrative Health at The University
of Arizona. My integrative experience has shown me a unique way to connect with a person's
mind, body, and spirit to offer them holistic and complete care. The ICARE values represented
by your facility of innovation, collaboration, accountability, respect and empathy are in
alignment with the nurse I plan on being . I am a committed and diligent nurse with a passion for
providing people with safe, equitable, and quality healthcare.
My hands-on clinical experience has developed me into a versatile nurse with the ability
to handle fast paced and stressful situations. I am quick to learn new skills and I am an
exceptional team player. I am currently interested in the Pediatric Emergency Department
although my truest passion is psychiatric adolescent nursing because it combines my passions of
caring for children, spreading the awareness of addiction and mental health, and stopping it
before it takes over a person's life. My ability to connect with younger and older populations
makes me an incredible asset for a pediatric setting as I go beyond making the child feel
comfortable but I exceed in easing the parents' concerns as well. My ability to empathize and go
above and beyond in my work is shown in every aspect of my care.
My personal experience growing up in a low income household with no access to health
insurance allows me to understand the social determinants of health that enable a person from
receiving equitable care. The challenges I have faced in my own community brings a
compassionate understanding to addiction, mental health, and lack of access. My work
experience has taught me exceptional communication skills along with conflict resolution skills
that allow me to create a safe environment with my patients and their families in a manner that
makes them feel heard and understood on an individual level. I know wherever my placement is,
my strongest quality of empathy will shine through and allow me to work with any patient
population.

Thank you for considering my application. I know I will make an exceptional addition to
your new nurse residency program and an empowering nurse for years to come.

Sincerely, Ava Scarbrough
