• For items weighing over 25Kg a Genie SL15 Materials Lift will be utilised to minimise manual handling.
• Please Note ALL loads MUST be secured to the lifting forks by means of ratchet straps.
• All current certification of the equipment used to state SWL and date of last inspection will be kept in the
site HS&E file for inspection.
• Where the lifting of materials is taking place the barriers already in place will be extended around the
lifting area to avoid any other site operatives passing through the zone.
• Lifting at height signs will be placed at floor level around the area where the lifting is taking place to ensure
other trades are made aware of the works being carried out.
• 2 Genie SL15 Materials lifts will be utilised in conjunction to lift the pipework into position insuring that
the SWL has been checked beforehand at the time of ordering to ensure that it is capable of safely lifting the
required load.
• Please Note ALL loads MUST be secured to the lifting forks by means of ratchet straps.
• The pipework is then lifted into place using the materials lift and secured into the pre-installed brackets,
lined and levelled accordingly by operatives at high level positioned adjacent to the works.
• Once secure the brackets are checked to ensure that the load is safe and then the genie lift is lowered and
removed from the working area.
• Prior to commencing pressure testing, a Site survey of the Works area, will be undertaken. Operatives
dealing with the Tasks will be on Site to familiarise themselves with the location, Safety access / Egress
routes and emergency exits. CHT are to be informed of test being prepared and an inspection booking
agreed for documentation to be prepared for CHT to witness and confirm acceptance.
• The Works area will be Zoned off and adequate Barriers and Warning signage will be displayed, No
Emergency routes are to be obstructed.
• System is to be filled with treated water via a Dosatron water-powered, non-electric chemical injector.
• Observe the system during the test for any indications of leaks. If a leak is found, relieve all test
pressure and repair the leak before continuing.
• Bring the system up to a test pressure of 0.5bar. The system will expand slightly once it is up to
pressure, so additional pressure may be required to help it stabilize.
• Once the system stabilizes, observe it for 10 minutes. The system should be able to hold the test
pressure during that time.
• A loss or steadily decreasing pressure during this test is indicative of an air leak. If a leak occurs,
identify the leak with some washing up liquid or similar and repair the system then repeat this test.
Hydraulic test:
• If the system has lost any pressure during the preliminary test, bring the system back up to the
test pressure.
• Increase system pressure up to the amount stated below for the service type being tested;
LTHW – TBC
• Observe the system for 120 minutes. The system should be able to hold the full test pressure
during that time.
Prior to filling all parts of the system must be visually inspected and
appear to be complete and watertight.
All valves at the limits of the test section of pipe are closed and all
centrally located valves are open.
The fill pressure is sufficient to ensure that the system will fill
completely within a reasonable time i.e. the fill pressure should be
sufficient such that at the highest part of the system, a pressure of at
least 0.5 bar is achievable.
The proposed test pressure and the available fill water pressure do
not exceed 1.5 times the nominal pressure ratings of any system
components included within the test area
There are an adequate number of air vents in the system and that

the completion of the fill. Manual air vents will need to be manned
during the fill and closed on completion
An adequate, properly trained and briefed labour force is available to
check the system for leaks progressively as it is filled.
In the event of a leak, drain cocks are accessible and have hoses run
to drain so that the system can be emptied immediately.
A means of raising the system pressure to the required test pressure
has been connected so that the test can take place as soon as the
system is filled.
A certified calibrated test pressure gauge or manometer, capable of
measuring pressure variations of at least 0.1 bar has been fitted at the
lowest part of the system so that the pressure can be monitored
during the test. Test Procedure for all Metal Systems

*NOTE* - For all metal pipe work systems, a test pressure of at least
1.5 times the MAXIMUM working pressure of the system shall be
applied.
(1) When the system is full of water, raise the pressure to the test
pressure and seal the system.
(2) Monitor the pressure. If the pressure falls, walk around the system
to check for leaks or valves letting by.
(3) If the test pressure holds steady for one hour, the system is
deemed to be satisfactory.
(4) When it is concluded that the system is sound, have the
appropriate witnessing authority witness the test and sign off the
relevant test sheet.
