CAUTION

Do not use the fan to rotate the engine. Damage to

the fan can result.

Use the crankshaft pulley mounting capscrew or the

alternator pulley mounting nut to rotate the crankshaft in
the normal direction of rotation.

The set mark is located on the perimeter of the

crankshaft pulley, behind the belt. The mark is on the
surface between the belt and the gear cover.

Rotate the crankshaft until cylinder number 1 is at top

dead center on the compression stroke and the “1” or top
dead center mark on the crankshaft pulley (1) aligns with
the pointer (2) on the gear cover. The intake valve on
cylinder number 4 will begin to open when the engine is
in the proper position. Both valves will be closed on the
number 1 cylinder.

Loosen the locknut (3) on the adjustment screw (4) and

insert a feeler gauge (5) between the valve stem (6) and
rocker lever (7).

Turn the adjustment screw until a slight drag is felt on the

feeler gauge.
