002-004 Cylinder Head

Install

CAUTION

Make sure the cylinder


gasket is correctly aligned
with the holes in the
cylinder block. Failure to do
so can result in engine
damage.

The cylinder block and head


must be clean and dry.

Make sure the word “HEAD”


stamped on the gasket faces
up. Position the gasket onto
the dowel pins.

Install the cylinder head


onto the cylinder block.

Make sure the cylinder


head is installed onto the
dowel pins in the cylinder
block.

Three-Cylinder

NOTE: The cylinder head


capscrews in locations
(7, 2, and 10) and nearest

to the intake ports are


shorter and should not be
used in other cylinder
head capscrew locations.

Cylinder head position:

A. Front of engine.
B. Rear of engine.
C. Exhaust side of
engine.
D. Injector side of
engine.

Lubricate the bottom of the


cylinder head capscrew
heads and the threads with
clean engine oil.

Tighten the capscrews in


the sequence shown using
the following torquing
procedure.

1. Tighten all capscrews.

Torque
Value: 50 n.m [37 ft-lb]

2. Back off all capscrews


360 degrees.

3. Tighten all capscrews

Torque
Value: 50 n.m [37 ft-lb]

4. Tighten all capscrews.

Torque
Value: 75 n.m [55 ft-lb]

5. Tighten short capscrews


on intake side in locations
(7, 2, and 10).

Torque
Value: 85 n.m [63 ft-lb]

6. Advance all capscrews


60 degrees.

Four-Cylinder

Value: 50 n.m [37 ft-lb]

2. Back off all capscrews


360 degrees.

3. Tighten all capscrews

Torque
Value: 50 n.m [37 ft-lb]

4. Tighten all capscrews.

Torque
Value: 75 n.m [55 ft-lb]

5. Tighten short capscrews


on intake side in locations
(3, 6, 14, and 11).

Torque
Value: 85 n.m [63 ft-lb]

6. Advance all capscrews


60 degrees.
