10. Fit the camshaft gear and tighten the screws.

Fitting

Fitting the camshaft from the front on 9, 11, 12 and 13 litre

engines with PDE, HPI, XPI or GAS
1. Note!
Lubricate the entire camshaft and the
bearing seats with engine oil before fitting
the camshaft in the cylinder block.
Fit the camshaft. Take care not to damage the cams and bearings.
2. Lubricate the valve tappets with engine oil
and fit them in the same places as before
they were removed. Remember to
lubricate the shells before fitting the
pushrods. Tighten the screws. Refit the
rocker covers.

3. Fit the camshaft covers. Tighten the screws.

4. Fit the guide flange with thrust washer in the rear end of the camshaft.
Now the camshaft axial clearance can be checked:

z Fit the camshaft gear temporarily.

z Measure the camshaft axial clearance using a dial gauge. The axial play should be
between 0.05 and 0.35 mm.
z If the clearance is outside the permitted range, renew the thrust washer.
z Remove the camshaft gear again.

5. Remove all old sealing compound on the cylinder block and the sealing surface on the
timing gear plate. Clean off any oil and grease from the sealing surfaces using an alcohol
based detergent.
