Direction: Identify a place/area that will be a possible target for your outreach program

but related to housing problems, squatters or informal settlers within the NCR. Fill-up
the sample below and submit it here on canvas.

Place: (Street/Barangay) : Isla Puting Bato

Place: (City) : Tondo City
Any short description about the place :

The city's main squatter and slum problem is in Tondo, where an estimated 46,297 of
the city's 80,436 squatter and slum families are located. Barrio Magsaysay, Barrio
Magdaragat, the train tracks from Tayuman to Barrio Obrero, and the infamous Isla
Puting Bato are home to the largest squatter slum colonies. Tondo's physical
circumstances are very terrible. Along the district's many esteros, a large number of
squatters dwell. The district's streets are tiny, twisting, and tight, with many areas off-
limits to motorized vehicles.

Squatters and slum dwellers flock in Tondo because there are jobs available for the
unskilled and uneducated. Many stevedores and workers work at North Harbor. Many
kargadores and small sellers make their living at Divisoria and other marketplaces in the
region. Thousands of factories and small businesses also give employment options.
The district's proximity to the downtown areas of Santa Cruz and Quiapo, as well as the
low cost of jeepney transportation, attracts many impoverished people to settle there.
To live in Tondo, you must be willing to sacrifice the commercial bustle of downtown.
