FILM REVIEW (EXORCISM OF EMILY ROSE)

Discussion:
Reality which research aims to explain can be defined as something that exists or to
safely say something what we think or believe exists. Reality can be explained by science
which we call scientific perspective or by interpretivist or constructivist view which deals
or focuses on understanding the meaning, beliefs, values, actions, behaviors, and social
relationships.
Instruction:
Watch the movie "Exorcism of Emily Rose" directed by Scott Derrickson produced in 2005
(Available in Netflix).
Synopsis of the movie: The Rev. Moore (Tom Wilkinson) is prosecuted for the wrongful
death of a girl thought to be demonically possessed, because he administered the church-
sanctioned exorcism that ultimately killed her. Prosecuting attorney Ethan Thomas
(Campbell Scott) contends that the young woman, Emily (Jennifer Carpenter), suffered
from schizophrenia and should have been medically diagnosed. Meanwhile, defense
lawyer Erin Bruner (Laura Linney) argues that Emily's condition cannot be explained by
science alone.
