WELLBEING FOR LEARNING

Whose Wellbeing?
?
TODAY’S LEARNING'S

* A basic understanding of mindfulness and why we are

introducing it to your children

* Practical things you can start doing at home for your

self care and wellbeing which will help you to ‘show up’
as the best possible you for your children
, ,
.
PRACTICE 1 1

Take the next couple of minutes to

record down your thoughts-non
judgmentally.

!
Did you know…
?
We have around 50,000-70,000 thoughts a day
50,000-70,000
35-48 thoughts per minute 35-48
As many as 90-95 percent of them are exactly the same as we
had the day before 90-95
80 percent of our thoughts are negative 80

Our mind wanders around 47% 47

Why does this matter?

HAVE YOU EVER….
...?

* Been playing with your child and didn't realise how much
time had passed..?
..
* Smelled the rain with a deep breath in…?
?
* Laughed out loud and felt it in your face or even teared
up…? , ?
HAVE YOU EVER….
...?
* “Lost it” with your child and regretted it later?
?
* Listened to your child share a painful experience and
been flooded by your own emotions?

* Felt like you weren’t doing “enough "as a parent?

" "?

felt guilty for feeling that?

What is Mindfulness?
?

* Noticing our thoughts, emotions, body sensations in the

present moment with kindness and curiosity so that we
can choose our behaviour.

* Practice of focused attention

* Inner noticing & Outer noticing ( )
* It is a PRACTICE…..
WHAT MINDFULNESS IS
NOT

* Isn’t about being still and quiet – that can often be a by-
product, but that isn’t the goal
, .
* Isn’t about getting rid of your thoughts or silencing/controlling
your thinking /

* Isn’t a discipline tool(time out)

* Isn’t about always being happy & positive
WHAT’S THE POINT OF
NOTICING..
..

* Slows us down so we are able to respond vs. react

* Brings awareness immediately

* Brings us out of our head

..

WHAT DO WE WANT AS
PARENTS?
, ?
* To connect with our kids so they feel loved
,
* To know their inner worlds so we can keep them safe
, .
* To motivate our kids to grow as individuals
,
* To support them so that they can realize their potential
, .
How do we give our children this?
?

* Mindful parenting takes to heart the deep truth that we

can only give to our children what we have given first
and fundamentally to ourselves.
, ,
.
* The greatest gift we can give our kids is Presence and
Presence has to be a practiced.
, .
HOW CAN MINDFULNESS help with this?
?

* By cultivating a daily practice of attention we become

more aware of our being
* By allowing for ALL emotions with compassion we learn
to be accepting of ourselves and our children (as do our
children become accepting of themselves.)
* By creating space between the stimulus and the
response(s-l-o-w-I-n-g down)
* By using our senses we begin to experience pleasure
and joy more fully
