The article was entitled “A Humanistic Culturally Approach to Telesupervision: A Case

Study”. Written by Tonico Falasca, MS, the article was published in ePublications of
Regis University in Canada in February 2022. The study aimed to examined how a
supervisee thru utilizing telesupervision modality was able to manifest cultural sensitivity
and client centeredness. The the descriptive article used methods such are reflecting on
the counseling supervision conducted and reviewing compilations of journals supporting
the variables observed in the telesupervision session. Despite the relevance of the
article in the current scenario in the process of counseling supervision, the methods
used in defining telesupervision in the light of cultural sensitivity and client centeredness
should have been different.
The study followed the supervisor and supervisee relationship pre-Covid and during
Covid pandemic. The author started with preliminaries emphasizing in the approach,
process and needs inside the supervision relationship. The article also includes the
events transpired in the succeeding sessions of counseling supervision. The author
discussed the instrument needed to assist the supervisee in understanding self, in this
case the genogram. Specific issues also arise during the counseling relationship which
was dealt with thru collaborative approach.
The article finds its strength in its relevance with time. As the world shift from doing
things remotely because of the COVID – 19 pandemic, it is essential that counseling
supervision follow suit. Further, the author mentioned specific needs such as trust,
understanding self and non-verbal communication. The specificity contributes to the
integrity of the paper as it discussed and organized in its essentialities.
However, I find that the paper should have used different research method such as
phenomenology. It could have been meaningful if the supervisee lived experience were
compared. The use of genogram as method of understanding culture and self could
have been supplemented. I also find some ideas was not organized properly thus the
discussion failed to connect with the flow of ideas premised in paper like the use of
client center and collaborative approach. The section should have discussed after the
case study part to highlight the importance of the approach in understanding different
individualities.
Telesupervision is essential especially that the current situation requires things to be
done remotely. The ease of telecounseling and supervision had given equal access and
opportunities to diverse audience (Holyoak, 2020). The article is great in keeping up
with the needs of time but could have been substantial if the perspectives of other
culture using telesupervision was solicited.
