Abstract
• This project work investigates on tribological behavior of fiber composites.

• Banana and coir are the two fibers which are reinforced with the epoxy resin.

• Frictional force under various parameters in a dry condition with tribometer.

• The parameters are Speed, Load and time is constant.

• Fibers incorporation with the matrix influences the friction, friction coefficient and wear rate.

• Friction force increases with increase in load.

Introduction
• Usage of composite materials has been increasing day by day.
• Natural fiber composite possess good properties as like the other materials.
• Their structure can be easily tailored for the purpose
• This work comprises, Tribological behavior of banana and coir composites.
• Previous researches have been based on the tribological character of these fiber composites
individually but not as a composites.

Methodology
• The fibers are chopped into small pieces.
• Chopped fibers are weighed according to our composition ratio.
• Weighed fibers are mixed with the resin and hardener.
• The blending ratio of resin and hardener is 10:1.
• The mixture is poured in the open mold and kept in a room temperature for a day.

Result Analysis(Friction force)
15N
• At 15N & 300 rpm BC4 shows more friction & at 15N & 400 rpm BC3 shows more friction
• At 15N & 500 rpm C10 shows more friction
25N
• At 25N & 300 rpm B10 shows more friction & at 25N & 400 rpm C10 shows more friction
• At 25N & 500 rpm C10 shows more friction, at a point BC3&4 attains a more friction but
decreases suddenly due to its incorporation with the fiber matrix.
35N
• At 35N & 300 rpm BC2 shows more friction & at 35N & 400 rpm C10 shows more friction
• At 35N & 500 rpm BC2 shows more friction. At the start BC4 has more force but then it
decreased suddenly due to its poor matrix reinforcement.

Result Analysis(Friction Coefficient)

• Friction Coefficient decreases with increases in load.

• BC1 & BC2 has uneven friction coefficient through the load distribution.

• C10 and B10 possess constant friction coefficient at different speed but B10 is lesser than C10.

• BC3 & BC4 decreases in friction coefficient at increase in load.

• BC4 has decrease in friction coefficient but at 500 rpm it doesn’t varies too much.

Result Analysis(Specific Wear Rate)

• Wear rate increases with increases in load.

• BC2 possess uneven specific wear rate for different speed.

• B10 increases at one load and decreases at other loads on different speed.

• C10 shows increase in wear rate for the variations of speed and load.

• BC4 and BC3 also increased in increase in load through the speed.

Observations
• More the presence of coir fiber, higher the increase in friction. BC4 and BC3 has more friction.

• Banana fiber composites shows good resistance to water absorption than other composites. More coir content
results in more water absorption.

• BC3 sample composition does not get proper reinforcement with the matrix between two fibers and resins.

• Air traps in the banana coir composites samples varies from 0.79 to 1.65%.

• From the study it is observed that high banana fiber content has poor reinforcement with the coir fiber
content. But increase in coir content shows good reinforcement with matrix.
