World/Country context

What was going on in the country/world before the leader rise to power?

In Italy was confront economic and politic critical crisis like mass strikes,
workers' demonstrations and experiments in self-management through land and
factory occupations. Italy before Mussolini has a liberal politics and probably
that was the reason of the disorder.

In the world they were recuperating from the First World War that start in 1914
and ends in 1918. The World were recovering in the economic part and
stablished order in the politic part, just like Mussolini did in the next year and
start to make a relation with the Nazis. So Mussolini take advantage of the
situation of Italy and take that opportunity to increase the nationalism and gain
power.

Ideology/Form of government

What was the ideology of the leader, his motivations, aims?


The ideology of Mussolini was to have a totalitarian power in the country, to
have the control on the economic and social power. And this has the values of
nationalism and militarization.
His motivations were to be a strong lider, resolve the problems between the
Catholics and socialist and communism. He want to unite the people and don’t
have any problems in that part.
His aim was to make Italy a great power like Britain and France in Europe and
he also wanted to establish a dominant position in the Mediterranean. Complete
answer: Mussolini's foreign policy was to expand the Italian empire and
establish dominance.

What was the leader’s form of government that was set up?
The form of government of Mussolini it was Fascism, he wanted to have the
absolute power in the economic part and the social part too. Then to have order
and loyalty from the poblation.

What was the role of the army, police, and special forces?
The Fasci de Cobattimento were created by Mussolini in 1919, who came to
power in 1922 and imposed a single party. This Italian Fascist regime would
become Adolf Hitler's main ally in the Second World War.

However, he was the one who promoted Italy's arms development.


OVRA was the anti-fascist political police also created by Mussolini, it was
Mussolini's secret police, during the reign of Victor III. The role of the police was
to be on the alert against the anti-fascists

What role did propaganda and censorship play?


The role of propaganda was to justify its authority and programs and to
encourage popular support. The fascist regime made heavy use of propaganda,
including pageantry and rhetoric, to inspire the nation to unity that would obey.

Both propaganda and censorship were to augment the fascist regime.

What were Mussolini’s main foreign, economic, education and social policies?
Benito Mussolini's foreign policy was based on the pragmatism of the regime,
on political and ideological issues. The allies changed according to the situation
and did not take into account the human and material resources available to
Italy to face the challenges facing Italy.

Expansionist policies and ideas, aiming for Italy to regain the lands that were
once part of the Roman Empire. The use of violence as a means to impose
fascist ideas. Censorship of all manifestations of freedom of expression. Anti-
communism and capitalism.

To what extent did a dictator try to be popular and why?


He was an Italian politician, military man and dictator, president of the Council
of Royal Ministers of Italy from 1922 to 1943 and Duce -guide- of the Italian
Social Republic from 1943 to 1945. He brought to power the National Fascist
Party and later the Republican Fascist Party, and established a totalitarian
regime during the period known as Italian Fascism, under the approval of King
Victor Emmanuel III, until its collapse in World War II.

Benito Mussolini (1883-1945) was the leader of the Fascist party, which
dominated Italy between 1922 and 1943. In its totalitarian, anti-rational and
idealistic vision, fascism extolled force, violence and nationalism to the
