Stainless steel surfaces shall be prepared for insulation as follows:
x Items which have been exposed to a salty atmosphere during transit, storage
or after erection shall be thoroughly washed with potable water containing
less than 2 ppm chlorides.
x The surfaces shall be thoroughly dried.
x Stainless steel pipe and equipment shall be painted in accordance with

that are not insulated, shall also be provided with a weather protection cover of
stainless steel sheet metal.
Instrument piping, impulse lines, shall be insulated for heat conservation when the
related header piping is insulated. Mineral wool preformed pipe cover or blanket shall
be used with metal jacketing. In the event metal jacket is not suitable mastic
impregnated scrim cloth shall be used as weatherproofing, applied to a dry thickness
