Introduction
Sociology according to the dictionary is "the systematic study of society and social
interaction." The term "sociology" is derived from the latin word socius (friendship) and the
Greek logos (speech or reason), and it literally means "reasoned speech about friendship."

Sociologist Dorothy Smith defines the it as "ongoing concerting and coordination of people's
acts" (Smith 1999). The systematic study of all aspects of life that are categorised as "social"
is known as sociology.

Reflection Week 2: Culture and Socialization

The leaning outcome of the abovementioned week is about Culture and socialization. Culture
has a specific role in social aspects. Culture is a slow-moving developmental process that
begins after a person is born and continues for several years. After the second week of class,
I've concluded that culture is nothing more than people's various values and belief systems,
which distinguishes families, religion, caste, gender, and social spheres. Major and secondary
causes of cultural change include families, schools, peer groups, and the media. Various
names, symbols, and signs have been used to identify ourselves from our neighbours'
civilizations. Culture, in my opinion, has nothing to do with religion, caste, or nationality.
According to my observations, I have discovered the same culture in my friends from other
countries, which has completely grown and satisfied my cultural criteria; however, some of
my friends who live in the same country and belong to the same religion or caste have
developed distinct cultural characteristics.

Further, according to the teachings and personal experiences, class is also a powerful cultural
dominant force. So-called high and low cultural standards have spread across society, and
they have nothing to do with cultural progress since, as far as I can tell, so-called low cultures
are the society's popular culture, and a large number of people believe in them. Subculture is
also important, as I've witnessed among my friends who, after being a part of a large cultural
group, desire to dress up in certain apparel or depict themselves in specific ways. Subcultures
are important in bringing my society's cultural components together.

Reflection Week 4: Gender and sexuality

The leaning outcome of the abovementioned week is about Gender and Sexuality. Gender or
sex refers to the physiological differences between male and female bodies. Gender, on the
other hand, has resulted in a wide spectrum of social and cultural inequalities among students,
employees, and families in schools, colleges, and businesses. The gender binary, according to
societal victims, is a serious issue. Despite the fact that modern education, lifestyle, and
development have brought the two groups closer together, women still face domination and
harassment challenges that males do not.

According to my personal experience, there is gender difference in my neighbourhood when

it comes to caring for and raising children. Women are responsible for providing the greatest
care for their children, whereas the father is less worried. Though gender stereotypes have
presented a baby's upbringing as wholly dependent on its mother's efforts, this was not
always the case. During family reunions, it is typical for men to display their masculinity by
controlling and making fun of their female relatives. In the drawing room, women are more
apparent in kitchen settings, where they address a range of masculinity-related challenges.

Conclusion

From the aforesaid learning we can conclude that because Sociology incorporates individuals
of varied mentalities, castes, gender, faiths, and cultures, it is difficult. The basic goal of
society should be to eliminate social discrimination and live as a unified entity in the national
and international spheres.
