Summary

A crisis is any event or period that will lead, or may lead, to an

unstable and dangerous situation affecting an individual, group,
or all of society. Crises are negative changes in the human or
environmental affairs, especially when they occur abruptly, with
little or no warning. Organisational crises are relatively low-
probability, high-impact situations that threaten the
competitiveness and viability of an organisation. Although crisis
experience and an industry's technological risk were not
significantly related to crisis-preparedness, high-performing
organisations reported higher levels of crisis-preparedness.
Few example of crisis :

1. Economic crisis, Natural disaster

2.Technological crisis
3.Organizational Misdeeds
4.Terrorist attacks/man-made disasters
Introduction

Crisis management is a situation-based management

system that includes clear roles and responsibilities and process
related organisational requirements company-wide. The
response shall include action in the following areas: Crisis
prevention, crisis assessment, crisis handling and crisis
termination. The aim of crisis management is to be well
prepared for crisis, ensure a rapid and adequate response to the
crisis, maintaining clear lines of reporting and communication in
the event of crisis and agreeing rules for crisis termination.
Crisis management consists of different aspects including:
• Establishing metrics to define what scenarios constitute a
crisis and should consequently trigger the necessary response
mechanisms.
• Communication that occurs within the response phase of
emergency-management scenarios.
Discussion on PR on crisis management

It is the process of preparing an organization for a major event

that threatens the organization, its reputation, stakeholders, or
the general public.

Public relations professionals play a vital part in crisis

communication.

During a crisis, the main goal of a PR department would be to

inform all interested parties about the current situation, potential
risks, and planned actions. A well-prepared crisis plan should
contain the first type of message that will be sent out to the
world.

Crisis management is the process by which an organization

deals with a major unpredictable event that threatens to harm the
organization, its stakeholders, or the general public. Three
elements are common to most definitions of crisis: (a) a threat to
the organization, (b) the element of surprise, and (c) a short
decision time Venette argues that “crisis is a process of
transformation where the old system can no longer be
maintained.”
How to learn a PR crisis management

Every business should have a PR crisis team and plan . Here are
six tips to that we can learn PR crisis management.
1. Appoint a response team

Your business should already have a response team in place

before a crisis even hits. However, during a controversy, you'll
want to appoint a response team quickly to ensure the right
people are speaking on behalf of your company.

2. Devise a strategy and brief your team.

Protocol is essential to the proper management of your crisis

communications efforts. "Whatever the strategy is, the company
must relay protocol to any and all persons who could be
approached to speak on their behalf. This means informing all
employees, stakeholders, board members, etc., of who is to be
speaking with media and how they are to direct any inquiries.
This will save the company from having to explain comments
from any unofficial company representatives later."

3. Monitor the situation

Assessing your brand's image is especially important following

a PR crisis. You will need to keep an eye on inbound and
outbound communications to address follow-up questions or
concerns.
4. Review and learn from the situation

Once the crisis is over, a great suggestion is to conduc a post-

action review.
"Look at how well your staff and management handled the
situation," he said. "Discuss what could have been done
differently and what changes are necessary to prevent a similar
situation
CONCLUSION

A PR crisis occurs when no one expects it. And usually, it

spreads quickly among business news. But it is not the end of
the world. The key is to know how to react in such a pressure
situation.

PR disasters are stressful situations. Our employees need to

know the strategy. Otherwise, they might panic.

Once a crisis hits, you will know what to do. Some troubles you
can’t prevent, but surely also you can minimize the damage.
