I. Instruction
1. This assignment is done by a group of two students
2. Select one department or organization as your project case
3. Search on Internet about KM development methodology. I have attached some articles
for your reference
4. Write a report on your project experience about KMS development
5. Prepare power point slide and present in the class. Presentation time is only 10 minutes.
This implies that you should have around 10 slides.
6. Deliver as scheduled in the online class or as instructed by the instructor
7. During presentation, System demonstration is important during presentation

II. Main activities to be done

1. Clearly describe current KM problems and its consequence on the organization
2. Gather user requirements. Use interview, observation, questionnaire survey and existing
documents (e.g. procedure manual)
3. Propose the conceptual model of your KMS using concept map or taxonomy or
Ontology

4. Map your conceptual model with technological tools to develop the KMS Architecture
a. Select an open source platform like content management system such as Drupal,
Joomla, Wordpress, etc and Build your knowledge management system such as
writing codes, building interfaces, populating knowledge resources to your
knowledge database, etc
b. As a criteria to select the platform
i. File upload/download and storage functionality
ii. Search facility
iii. Support user collaboration or online communication
iv. Is it menu driven or Graphical interface
v. Does it support customization? Can you add new module written by you
or from Internet
vi. Does it have password facility for security
5. Design your Knowledge management system such as
a. interface design – how users interact with your system. Such menu, buttons,
navigation links, etc
b. knowledge repository development (content upload) based on your concept map
or ontology. add content to each knowledge concepts. For example develop or
collect texts about hardware and software
6. Upload some content to your system so that you have a prototype of real KMS
7. Develop criteria to evaluate your KMS by the end users.
a. Undertake user acceptance evaluation using usefulness and ease of use
b. Usefulness means is the content relevant to their task
c. Ease of use – does the system help them to easily access knowledge resources?
Does it save time to access knowledge, etc.
8. Revise your system based on the evaluation feedback.

1. What are is your responsibility in the organization

2. What knowledge do you need to accomplish your task?
3. What are the documents you use as a reference to accomplish your task such as procedure
manual, guideline, policy, etc ?
4. Do you frequently interact with other people? Why you want to interact? How do you
select those people for advise on your task?
5. What challenge do you face to get knowledge required for your task
6. What technology do you use at present time
7. What database do you have at your organization
8. For what purpose you use the database
9. Do you have plan to introduce knowledge management initiatives?
10. If no, why?
