My family and I arrived in Tokyo, Japan to spend our Christmas holidays! We felt
so excited!
Today was our first day. We visited a famous aquarium. We saw the jellyfish and
fed the penguins there. I was fascinated by the sharks. I wanted to observe the sharks
for a longer time and learn more about them. We were too late for the dolphin show
though, so we did not watch it.
In the afternoon, we went shopping in Aeon Mall. We bought some clothes. Aeon
Mall is very close to the airport. We will stop by the mall again on 27 / 12 before we
board the plane to Hong Kong. We want to buy some presents there for our friends.
Posted by Wilson at 23:45 on 24 / 12 / 2020

After breakfast, we visited a theme park and got on the thrilling rides. We stayed
there till evening.
At night, we went to a fish market to enjoy sashimi and fish noodles. Japanese
people eat noodles differently. They make loud noises to show that they think the
noodles are yummy. However, Chinese people think that is rude. Mum will never let me
do that at home! She feels sick of the nasty noises.
I should sleep early tonight because we are going on an exhausting hiking trip
tomorrow morning. I am looking forward to the relaxing hot spring after that!

Eunice is reading an article about trees on a website. Read it carefully and choose the best
answers for Questions 1-5 and complete Questions 6-7.

Trees

Trees are important to us. They do lots for us, our environment and other living
things in nature.

Trees help to keep our air clean and make us healthy. They breathe in dirty air and
give out fresh one. Go for a walk in the park in the morning, and you can feel how
comfortable it is to be surrounded by many trees and fresh air.

Besides, trees can give us many types of beautiful flowers. They also give us
delicious fruits such as apples, pears, peaches, almond and walnuts. Trees provide homes
for different insects, birds and other animals. Even the sap of trees is useful as food for
insects and for making maple syrup.

Trees are so valuable. We can use them in many ways. However, we are destroying
them faster than they can grow. We cut down trees for making paper and furniture.
Besides, we clear the forest to make land to build houses, shopping malls, offices and so
on. Clearing the forest is harmful. Millions of animals lost their home because of this.

It is time for us to stop hurting our great friends, trees. Use less paper and join tree-
planting activities. We can all help to protect our dear friends!

Cheung Chau Trip

Heidi is a P.5 student in Lee Chi Tat Memorial School. She has just been to Cheung
Chau. She is talking with Principal Chiu about the Cheung Chau trip.

Principal Hi, Heidi. How was your trip in Cheung Chau?

Chiu:
Heidi: It was incredibly great. This was my first time to Cheung Chau. We have
done interesting things there, such as trying local snacks, hiking and
visiting temples. My classmates have eaten a lot of food in Cheung Chau,
for example, fishballs, mochi, iced watermelon slices and Cheung Chau
buns.
Principal Have you been to the beach in Cheung Chau?
Chiu:
Heidi: No, I have not been to the beach there. I was so sick that I stayed with
the nurse on the third day. It was a pity! Luckily, I was fine the next day.
Principal Cheer up. There are still many attractions in Cheung Chau. Have you
Chiu: toured around Cheung Po Tsai Cave?
Heidi: Yeah! It was thrilling exploring the cave. It was narrow and dark so I had
to carry a torch. I have taken many photos of the cave. Have you ever
climbed into a cave? It was the most unforgettable experience for me.
Principal No, I have never climbed into a cave. Heidi, how was your day at the
Chiu: Bun Festival?
Heidi: It was memorable. I have seen a very exciting Bun Scrambling
Competition. It was noisy but lively. Competitors had to grab as many
buns as possible in only three minutes. The bun tower was so tall. I was
afraid that the competitors might fall down and get hurt. I had a photo
with the winner, Jim Chau. I have already sent the photo to him but he
has not replied yet.
Principal Great! It is good to hear that you had a wonderful experience in Cheung
Chiu: Chau. Remember to show your gratitude to your parents and teachers
who provided you with what you needed in this trip.
Heidi: Certainly!

Tom is reading an article about sandwiches. Read it carefully and choose the best
answers for Questions 1-5 and complete Question 6.

Sandwiches
Many people prefer eating sandwiches especially for breakfast and lunch.
Sandwich is a popular food in Hong Kong because it is convenient to buy and easy to
prepare. You can just get a sandwich at a convenience store or a sandwich shop on your
way to school or work. You can make it at home easily using different fillings withi n
minutes, and it does not need to be cooked. Sandwich is popular at picnics because you
can simply eat it with your hands.

The name ‘sandwich’ is created by a person called the Earl of Sandwich in the
th
18 century. He was the first person in London to order meat served between two slices
of bread because he wanted to eat with one hand. So, he could continue to play in the
casino with his other hand. Later, many workers and travellers began to eat this type of
‘sandwich’. They chose it because it was easy-to-make, easy-to-eat and cheap.

Nowadays, many varieties of bread, such as baguettes, bagels and ciabattas, are
used. You can find meat, vegetables, spreads and all sorts of ingredients inside a
sandwich. Among them, the favourites are peanut butter, ham and cheese, tuna fish and
BLT (bacon, lettuce, tomato).

Next time when you are relishing a sandwich with your friends, think about the
interesting story behind it at every bite.

1. In the first paragraph, the writer wants us to ____________.

 A. think about the history of sandwiches
 B. learn about the eating culture in the past
 C. find out about the variety of sandwiches
 D. know why sandwiches have become a popular food

2. What was the Earl of Sandwich doing when he asked for a sandwich?
 A. He was watching a performance.
 B. He was playing a computer game.
 C. He was betting money in a card game.
 D. He was drawing a picture.
P5英_第3-8週_功課_第34頁

3. In paragraph 2, the word ‘They’ refers to__________.

 A. two slices of bread
 B. workers and travellers
 C. sandwiches
 D. sandwich shops

4. In paragraph 3, what do we know about sandwiches?

 A. There are many different kinds of sandwiches.
 B. Baguette is the most popular bread.
 C. People must put meat in a sandwich.
 D. BLT is a kind of bread.

5. In the last paragraph, ‘relishing’ means ___________.

 A. eating
 B. throwing
 C. playing
 D. drawing

6. Finish the fact sheet about sandwiches with only ONE word for each blank. Make
