SOP 5 ; Procedure for design & development PURPOSE:

To ensure that design and development activities are carried out in a controlled
manner so that the intended user requirements are met.

SCOPE:

Design and development activities of customer-specific product, new product, and


existing product up-gradation

AUTHORITY AND RESPONSIBILITY:

Design Team is responsible for providing new design ideas and Customers
specifications for developing new samples or altering and upgrading existing samples

Sampling Incharge is responsible for giving the ideas a physical shape, and making the
required amendments and modifications in the existing samples as per the instructions
of the Managing Director. He is assisted by Senior Designer.

METHOD:
Types of Design and development (D&D) Activities

At the Design and Development department of the company, the following types of
design activities are undertaken.

Customer Specified Products: In this case, a customer makes use of the product design
capabilities of the company to design a specific product. It may be later manufactured
by the company if the customer desires so. Involvement of D&D department shall be in
the estimation of manpower and material requirements (before contract).

New product / Up-gradation of Existing product: In this case, the top management
takes a decision to make a new product / upgrade an existing (standard) product after
considering the market requirements and product performance. No specific external
customer is considered. Marketing Department plays the role of (internal) customer.
